As far as I'm concerned, the only email service that uses https:// permanently is Hushmail. Am I wrong?

Unfortunately, Google doesn't yet support this option for Google Apps accounts, or at least it's not in the Settings tab.

Google should make this secure for all users, if they don't like the speed they should change it themselves. I hope Google changes it to https settings quickly. Most users care about security than speed.

Heck, be careful using ANY public hotspot.

If you go to conferences (even major new media/social ones), now or in the past, you probably were sniffed *and* published. It's been known that in some cases, googling for your password (which can be done easily if you are in a hurry, browser windows competing for attention and so on, as is the case w/ Windows), you might find your password in a list on the web.

Still won't fight complacency or, that people probably wouldn't willfully enter their password as a search term.

I noticed that as well, I always use SSL - so much of my life is controlled by email. I recognize that the risk might be minimal, but the prevention is equally painless - so why not just leave it in SSL mode all the time and at least make it challenging for someone to steal it.
