And that is why they are offering their listing services (classified at best) for free. It is a lawsuit haven. If HR or recruiters were to look for new hires through Jobster, they are risking discrimination lawsuits. Here is why (speaking from HR experience). Try sending your resume with a picture of yourself. Trust me. 99% of the recruiters or HR will dump your resume. Why? Because if they looked at your resume and deny you the job, you can cry discrimination. That is why HR and recruiters will run far away from Jobster.com. Jobster is just advertising company. They are really good at getting media attention but HR or recruiting department will stay away from them. No matter how much times change toward social networking, unless the job law changes, having a site with your picture will not get you a job. Probably a pizza delivery.

Re: Facebook, Jobster?

uggh, Cavenger.com is better

Re: Facebook, Jobster?

You might want to take a reality check on this supposed Jobster/Facebook “partnership.”

Who is calling it a partnership? Jobster. To my knowledge, Facebook has issued no press release on this supposed “partnership” (http://www.facebook.com/pre.... Facebook seems to be very happy doing what they’re doing, thank you. Jobster is just a flea on a big dog.

Here’s all it is:

Facebook has an API that anyone can use FOR FREE. Once you’ve written your app, it appears on their list (http://developers.facebook..... It doesn’t even look to me as though Facebook polices the apps very much; I would hope they know a lot about Jobster, but who knows? You can also define yourself as a Facebook group. It’s not like you’re a first-class module in Facebook; you’re just another service plugged into it. To get a feel for which of these plugins interest Facebook, the one they are calling their “Featured Product” is MoochSpot, which is for tracking expenses.

Good luck to Jobster. Maybe someday they’ll be the featured product.

It is bizarre to me that anyone would accept Jobster PR at face value. A partnership is a two-way street. To be sure, perhaps Facebook will be gratified by the bazillions of hits that come their way from Jobster (possible? Doubtful). Or maybe there will be a universal shout from the kids that the Jobster CareerCenter is a great feature. But right now, the 2nd most popular app (after one written by Facebook) is “Your Hottest Friend,” which should give you an idea of what the student mind values (http://developers.facebook.....

Re: Facebook, Jobster?

Nick, I have just read a few of your comments and I would like to discuss some things with you...a good thing.

Re: Facebook, Jobster?

Well, the way i see it, although no one will 'go' to a social site to seek a job, users tend to live in the site and absorb everything they throw at em.

To me its like an impulse buy at a store. If ur showing me jobs while im on teh site...ill tend to go look what jobs exist.Hell, if ur selling me an ipod, i mite just buy it on a social networking site simply because I'm there every day.

These sites are like nightclubs and/or malls. People hang out. The more u have goin on, teh more ppl will do!

Re: Facebook, Jobster?

Nick,

I agree Facebook could make good money from jobs, but I'm not so convinced that you'd go to MySpace, for instance, when you're job seeking - the ethos is just different.

Re: Facebook, Jobster?

There are countless of new users to facebook every day.All the youth is looking for casual jobs and/or careers. IMO facebook or any social networking site can make tons of money selling job listings. It makes perfect sense. Young ppl job postings.

Probably can make more off jobs than advertising spots. Anyone agree?

Re: Facebook, Jobster?

Hmmm.... this reminds me of something from two years ago.

http://www.thecrimson.com/a...

joboozle.com is now a link farm

Re: Facebook, Jobster?

This doesn’t change the fact that Jobster’s business model isn’t that great. Nobody wants to be “social networking” with job seekers when they have a good job. LinkedIn is great because its about networking in your job. Jobster is about networking when you don’t have a job or are seeking one. What happens to their users when they get the job? They have no incentive to stay around to be a part of the community anymore, where LinkedIn doesn’t have this problem.

We’ll see what kind of partnership is actually in store for Jobster and Facebook, but it’ll have to be a very strong partnership with lots of interoperability between the two sites for it to save Jobster.
