    There are a great number of competitor in this area. Hot Or Not is a great site, but many people have preferred more segmentary URLs.

    On Hot or Not maybe, but some paid dating sites will be mostly real profiles, and some free sites (like DatingBetter.com) put real effort into keeping fakes out. It's never 100% because sometimes you just can't tell until the person "hit a child in my car while on business in Nigeria" and "please send money or they will put me in jail".

    I agree with John that sites have to struggle to keep spammers out. Especially free sites. One good free site is livedatelove.com - I was told they block people by IP so Nigerians stay out. They also constantly monitor for spammers and obscene photos.
