"The widget startups are playing a high-risk, high reward game - ride the MySpace wave and you can have hundreds of thousands of users in a matter of months, but get blocked by MySpace and it all comes crashing down. T"

Pete, doesn't this asume the MySpace is the only viable alternative for these widget companies? I mean, with so many other social networks sprouting like weeds, wouldn't they be able to exploit those as well? It's all just embedable code that you can embed anywhere right?

    Pete,

The exciting thing about the corkboard is that anyone can add photos to it - not just the original poster. Its a social widget!

Widget diversification. The apocalypse must be upon us. It may be boring as hell to buy something for $1 and selling it for $1.20 but taking $20 million and riding it down to $0 while hoping somebody will want to pay more for your "business" with little to no revenues may be exciting but will probably not end pleasantly.

I have a friend in the sprocket business. He seems to enjoy his job :)

    al,

Does he work at Acme Sprockets? My friend Bob used to work there, before he was transferred to the Widgets and Whatjamacallits division.

Isn't building a business about making money? That's a ridiculous statement and a sign of the times.

You have here a bunch of guys with indefensible technologies giving their products away. Gee, that sounds like a great business.

The really stupid thing is that someone is probably going to pay a boatload of money for it in time.

Somebody shoot me and put me out of my misery!
