I want to meet Robert Scoble and Michael Arrington and then sneak off to the bathroom for a hot man-boy threesome pash streamed live.

A wise man or woman from circa the year 2350 AD brought to Web 2.0 Expo via the wonders of time travel by yet another more advanced civilization wishing to help the inhabitants of Earth. A few decades after people have colonized Mars, it will be an interesting time to contemplate the future of humankind. Many of the same things that face us now -- global warming, the ability to destroy ourselves, constrains on natural resources, growing complexity and demands of modern society -- will face us again then on Mars in times of struggle and growth. However, the human race will have better opportunities to actually change its destiny in that fresh start.

The term 'web browser' will be a thing of the past as everything has become ubiquitous in ways we are hard pressed to imagine now. However, a new flurry of human thought, interaction, government and societal issues will spur many innovations in the ways people interact and solve problems. In that future, we will face many similar issues to those we face now in the 2nd decade of widespread computer and internet use which has lead to a world powered by instant information, the impact of computation on science, and an ever more complex lifestyle powered more and more by machines demanding more and more resources of their own.

The new challenges faced on Mars in the 24th century after two decades of large scale human colonization will mirror many of the challenges faced after the industrial and computer revolutions. The solutions developed in that future could likely inspire us in our present time.

Pete Cashmore, obviously. He was awesome to hang with at Community Next, he's throwing an awesome meetup tomorrow at the TechCrunch/PopSugar party in Hollywood. Talks and industry speak are very insightful, but I find most of my learning comes from the social aspects, and Pete's the guy to not only meet - but shadow - at events if you want to meet even more awesome people.
  • Enrique Gutierrez · 1 year ago
    (did anyone catch that?)
  • CaseyGrooms · 1 year ago
Actually, I'm changing mine to Eric Tucker - Mars futurist and colonization expert.

Can I do that? Is that legal? ... I already bought my flight to SF!
  • Matthew · 1 year ago
I think my choice would have to be Allen Hurff, to ask him incessantly for advice on everything!
  • Johnyzar · 1 year ago
if i were in Web 2.0 Expo i would like to meet the one who could help with my new venture. i am talking about a mentor with whom i will be able to discuss and create a successful business! i hope i can find him out of 10,000 people..
  • Jacob Morgan · 1 year ago
Want to meet everyone and anyone I can. No on person is better than the next. Everyone has their own stories and experiences with web 2.0 and with life in general. I go to events to meet people and build quality relationships. It's all about knowledge sharing and connecting with people on a one to one level. I want to go to meet YOU.

It would be neat to see Moses though...
  • Matt · 1 year ago
Out of the 10,000+ people at Web 2.0 Expo SF, I would like to meet Matt Cutts and ask him if this comment on Mashable would count as a backlink on Google thus improving on the relevancy for the keyword search 'Mashable'. UGC all the way! Ok, that was random.
  • James Levy · 1 year ago
I want to meet a really hot co-founder babe. Of course, there's going to be plenty of hot babes at Web 2.0 (cough), so I have to keep my eye out for a she-geek with especially large assets.

I can imagine it now. She walks up to me, and winks.

"Is that a rising valuation in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me!"

We'll then sneak off to an unoccupied conference room, and I'll pitch like I've never pitched before.
  • Meng-You Yang · 1 year ago
I'd like to see Jerry Yang's new boss. Come on! This soap opera can't be dragged on forever. [Disclosure: I'm a tiny shareholder of Jerry Yang's company.]
  • Kai Lemmetty · 1 year ago
    YOU!
  • Rick · 1 year ago
I want to meet that one person that complements my skill-set. Just as excited about new technologies and their use within a community, but with more of a business bent. Community should be about balancing viewpoints and reciprocity - the facilitators of that community no less so.
  • James · 1 year ago
Funny, I've been thinking about how nice it would be to meet someone with a little bit more of a developer's skill set than me.
  • James · 1 year ago
Although there's a lot of interesting people to talk to and learn from, ideally, I would like to meet Mark Zuckerberg...

I want to meet Adam Hirsch (Mashable), because we need to finally get this thing moving....he knows what I mean.

I'd like to meet the poor man or woman responsible for keeping the WiFi active for 10k people all trying to blog, upload videos and whatever else they will be doing when someone announces something they haven't heard of before
  • Joshua Schachter · 1 year ago
The person who wrote this article...for generating 27 comments in half a day on a 70 word blurb. Now that's web 2.0 at its finest!
  • Gooze · 1 year ago
I would like to meet any of the entrepreneurs behind the latest "Comet" based web applications (Meebo, JotSpot, Renkoo) to discuss the future of these types of platforms.

.....or just Leo Laporte (screensavers ftw)....meeting him would be a dream...I should stop kidding myself though
  • Bartek · 1 year ago
There is not just one single person I would want to meet. Yes, talking to Scoble, Arrington (If he goes), Cashmore, or anyone up there making this industry great would be an amazing and insightful experience, but I think it's more about getting in the show as a whole.

There are so many people, opinions, products, and cool ideas floating around that I would rather make my focus discovery then having a good solid one-on-one talk with someone else. Sounds lame? Perhaps, but I know in such an event like this where there are so many people and ideas, I would rather capture all of that, and then hope that on a future date, in a smaller setting I can meet some of the more influential people in the business.

    That's my take :)
  • Britney Mason · 1 year ago
The passionate person. I want to meet the person who thinks outside the box. Who gets what social media is all about and knows how to use it. I want this person to inspire me, the community and the industry. This person can help me become better using social media and the thousands of tools out there. If I won the tickets to Web 2.0. I'd want to find this person and learn from them.

I would like to meet and video-interview as many Web 2.0 entrepreneurs as possible, then post the videos online for everyone outside of the event to see.
  • Josh Simmons · 1 year ago
At least one other person who thinks "Web 2.0" is a silly term.
  • Literanista · 1 year ago
    Everyone!
  • Noreen · 1 year ago
Kevin Rose and/or Leo Laporte - it's because of the these two guys that I really know anything about web 2.0 to begin with. I am way outside the demographic (by a long shot - first, I am female and second, I am old enough to be Kevin's mom)for listening to the Digg podcast, but it's Digg I check every day for news and stories. Though, I'm not sure I like the direction it seems to be taking. Then, I love Leo - what else can I say (besides I really, really want to go, that is)!

I'd like to bump into some power bloggers that are talking about Twitter, Twits, Tweets and Tweetscan at the Chicken Shit Bingo event.

I'm looking forward to meeting anyone and everyone that wants to meet the guy that won free tickets to Web 2.0 Expo on Mashable.com! :)

I want to start a twitter hide and seek game where we have to find/meet ppl based off clues.

Out of 10.000+ people I would definately love to meet with the father of Web 2.0, Tim O`Reilly, to ask him when Mobile 2.0 and Web 2.0 will blend into one new and cool Webile 3.0 and what users would get out of it. And if Tim is not there, I would always love to meet with Pete again and do another great interview with him like we did at SXSW.

I'd most like to meet Lane Becker of Get Satisfaction. He's speaking on "Customer Service is the New Marketing." If that alone isn't brilliant, I don't what is. And that's just the friggin' title.

    Please, hook a brutha up!

I want to meet the Mashable team...because let's face it; they have the coolest job out of all of us!
  • Sundance · 1 year ago
I am the co-founder babe (no kidding). I am meeting with the guy who knows exactly what to do with his winning tickets (at least one of them).
  • Danny · 1 year ago
I would like to meet Tim O'Reilly and Mark Zuckerberg -- both guys who founded what can be thought of as revolutionary publishing empires. I'm a producer/journalist at a newspaper site in Orlando. Declining revenues at news operations in the United States means serious trouble for journalism, and I'm desperately seeking ideas and inspiration to bring a renaissance in reporting that benefits the public. If meeting these guys could create an idea that sparks possibility for the future, it'd all be worthwhile. I would also love the chance to bring my journalist's point of view to the conference and perhaps spark ideas in others.
  • Michael Rosenthal · 1 year ago
The angle of my dreams.., early stage investor that is. You know the one. She thinks my idea is genius and knows just the right people and willing to give just enough money without being piggy about equity. You know, that one.
  • Xuening · 1 year ago
I'd like to meet the next Zuckerberg, Page, or Brin. These expos are meant as a place to explore and share new ideas, sure, it'd be interesting to talk to a big shot, but the real treasures are the undiscovered stars of tomorrow's internet landscape.
  • Facey Spacey Development · 1 year ago
I simply want to meet Pete Cashmore, Michael Arrington, Robert Scoble and all the usual suspects when they were all eager budding Web 2.0 gurus before they became famous. And I want to meet them in today's climate, this month, 2008, right now, as if they were in that embryonic state confronting today technologies.

I want to meet 18 year old Pete Cashmore trying to make it today right now without any of his accomplishments. And I wan to see how all of these individuals would express themselves and make the most out of this conference to promote themselves, learn and make connections.

In essence, I want to learn how they would take advantage of this conference being who they are without all the fame, experience and connections!

I want to meet that one person who:

    - Is quietly giving the finger to social networks, widgets, and news aggregators as we know them
    - Has a brilliantly back-asswards take on social communities and tools
    - Is torn between whether or not the idea is complete hubris or utter genius
    - Defaults toward the latter
    - And obsesses about it
    - Day and night
    - While understanding that it won't cure cancer or eradicate war
    - Listens more than talks
    - Watches more than showboats
    - Wants to build something of consequence and ride the wave, with all its risk
    - Instead of looking for the quick flip
    - Answers the question, "Who will buy you?" with a blank stare
    - Skips half of the brown-box lunch period to scribble down notes to self
    - Takes Muni home
    - Calls a family member
    - Obsesses and works all night

I wanna go, with eyes wide open, and find this person.

I just know this person will be there.
  • P. · 1 year ago
    uh...
I'd like to meet someone who has the most creative answer to this question...
  • Kyle Brady · 1 year ago
Is there ever going to be a winner?

There comes a point where you're not going to get new comments on an 'old' post/story...

I think this is that point.

    --Kyle
  • Tamar Weinberg · 1 year ago
Kyle, since you mention it, I should close comments now. We're already in the process of selecting a winner, and they will be contacted soon.
