HOW DOES A WIKIPEDIA ARTICLE ON GOOGLE KNOL POP UP BEFORE THE HOMEPAGE FOR GOOGLE KNOL?!

If anyone is interested in purchasing www.oondi.com which is a website similar to Google Knol, send an e-mail to info [AT] oondi [DOT] com. The time is now for these types of websites; the business model has just been validated by Google.

The distinct advantage of oondi.com is that the site also targets other languages such as Dutch and French, which is unique in comparison to Squidoo, HubPages, Google Knol, etc...

Google's TOS have always frightened me. It seems they are deliberately, and with malice aforethought, inviting the entire world, complete with grammar and spelling errors, let alone factual errors, to plop something on a page that will belong to Google lock, stock and barrel.
The kids who think it's thrilling to use four letter words and denigrate adults, the adults who despise kids, the everybody who has a bone to pick with anyone to enter anything they wish.
It looks like another coming failure.
So much for "Web 3".

I suspect Knol will be as popular as Wiki, the latter popularity lies in its simplicity of the content

I believe that's "tabula rasa" not "tabula rosa". Although a pink slate is just as nice as a blank one. I hope Google's Knol project incorporates grammar-checking functions; it would be really unfortunate if the entries included phrases like "a altruistic, useful, and interesting venture" and "quasi-governmental structural"...

Why would anyone want information off the internet. At best its subject to complete speculation and is most likely written from the hands of someone with their own agenda to push. Worst case is the information is just plain false.

The internet is like a cesspool of floating debris, sure its fun to stare at and see what floats by, but i wouldnt go swimming in it.

People need to go to their local libraries, research REAL books on subjects they are interested in, take notes and make their own conclusions based off the facts. My tip: Try to find a book on the subject written as close to when it took place, you will get the purest form on the subject that way.

Dont be lazy, do your research and stop being fat.

techcrunch has in their article that there will be revenue sharing from the ads that are on user written article pages

Hrm. Interesting.

When I originally read that (or the paragraph around it), I took it to mean you could sign up for an ad program and put it on there if you want.

Still, though, why would you share a fraction of adsense revenue with Google (which is meager to begin with, in most cases), when you can easily throw up pages elsewhere and monetize through more lucrative means?

Editorial issues aside (even though that's a good argument why this won't work) there are other things that popped out after reading the announcement. For example take the following phrases:

"There are millions of people who possess useful knowledge that they would love to share, and there are billions of people who can benefit from it. We believe that many do not share that knowledge today simply because it is not easy enough to do that."

...and...

"People will be able to submit comments, questions, edits, additional content, and so on."

Isn't this easy, personalized, publishing technology a 'blog'? And aren't billions all ready benefiting because of Google ability to match results to a search? What problem is Google really trying to solve?

Google talks about revenue-sharing in the post:

"If an author chooses to include ads, Google will provide the author with substantial revenue share from the proceeds of those ads."

That is one of the keys here, there is no reason to jump ship from Wikipedia, unless of course you get paid for it.
