Good! Print is good for one thing only - remember what life was like before mass acceptance of the Internet. Magazines, newspapers, and brochures alike are out-dated formats for delivering marketing. There is no long tail return on the investment, no metrics that can be tracked for success/failure reasonably... Supporting print is like polishing the brass on the Titanic.

Maybe it's the response or lack thereof on the part of the newspapers and Google.
I tried to set up a print campaign for 5 newspapers, and only 1 responded. Google never responded to my customer service requests.

Interesting that the Google blog said, "We believe fair and accurate journalism and timely news are critical ingredients to a healthy democracy".

I think they should have added, "and timely news can be ripped off word for word by many bloggers with Adsense ads on their blogs thereby generating a few bucks to the bloggers and healthy profits for Google".

Print media's time is limited and is just about on life support already, and this is just another nail in the coffin.

Google needs to stick with what they do best. That is online stuff.

The net robber writes in Spanish and its page is full of ads. But the post is yours.

In order to hide his behaviour he copies (literally but in spanish) no the whole article but most of the paragraphs.

By the way, i am spanish speaker too, and i have already left a commet in such a blog letting him know that we are not stupids

I have recently come out of working as a designer in the newspaper industry here in Australia. I watched the workload go through a significant decline during my time there, to the point where my whole team lost their jobs.

Newspaper readership is definitely on the decline, and advertisers know this. They know that people are turning to online sources for their news and entertainment, and the benefits of advertising in this medium far outweigh those from newspaper advertising. I find it hard to believe that Google is devotion any resources to this medium and think that their claims of this are more likely to be a public relations measure than anything else.

in my opinion google needs to open up adwords. quit making it the cryptic labrynth that it currently is and show what the next highest bid is etc. Maybe do like ebay and obfuscate user ids etc but it needs more accountability and needs to clearly tell you the exact things that could be improved in your pages.

I would advertise in my local paper if the prices were lower, if they lowered prices I think they would have more ads which is better than going out of business

No surprise at all. Print advertising is outdated and I guess these guys got to realize it. There is even more efficacy by doing it online, and google adwords has become a better way to market business nowadays.

The model is difficult to visualise.
Print ads are most for awareness or recognition.
All things being equal, there is no way that an action such as a purchase be processed from a print ad.
Print advertising may be in need of a makeover, bringing into question , the definition and purpose.
