explain...
Last week I could not load any subdomain of the blogs at wordpress.com for the same kind of misconfiguration and nobody reported, that Thailand blocked wordpress.com.
YouTube was available all the time without the www at the URL-start (a subdomain) and via different IPs. It was a simple misconfiguration, no block, no censorship.
Except maybe Mashable of course, just because you were arrogant enough to claim we'd be the next country to block YouTube :)
blocked in Thailand too
goverment need to close
people eye.
BANGKOK (AFP) - Thailand on Wednesday blocked the popular video-sharing website YouTube after it carried a clip seen as insulting the country's revered king, a government official said.
Vissanu Meeyoo, spokesman at Thailand's communications ministry, said they had asked YouTube to remove a video clip considered offensive to King Bhumibol Adulyadej, but no action had been taken.
"We have been blocking the website since this morning, after we found that it was very insulting to His Majesty the King," Vissanu told AFP.
"We have asked YouTube to remove the clip, but we have had no cooperation. If they remove the clip, we will consider lifting the ban," he added.
The move comes a week after Thailand jailed a Swiss citizen for 10 years for insulting the king by vandalising his portraits during a drunken spree.
The 44-second YouTube clip shows images of the king, crudely altered on a graphics program, which flash on the screen to the tune of the Thai national anthem.
One image shows the monarch next to a photograph of feet, which are considered the lowest part of the body in Buddhism. Such juxtaposition would be hugely offensive in Thailand, a mainly Buddhist country.
The profile of the YouTube user who posted the clip lists his location as the United States. YouTube is owned by Internet giant Google, and has a monthly audience of more than 70 million viewers.
Thailand's king, almost universally adored by Thais, is the world's longest-reigning monarch, and one of the few who is still protected by tough laws that prohibit any insult to the royal family.
Portraits of the monarch, who will be 80 this December, hang in every public building and shrines to him dot the sidewalks in major cities.
Oliver Jufer, 57, of Switzerland, pleaded guilty to five counts of lese majeste -- the crime of offending the dignity of a sovereign -- last Thursday for defacing several portraits of the king in the northern city of Chiang Mai.
The nation's censors routinely block websites that contain foreign news reports or online discussions about the monarchy. Foreign books and movies seen as critical of the king are also banned here.
Vissanu said the information ministry was considering taking action against other websites that carried links to the video clip.

Oliver Jufer, 57, of Switzerland SEND HIME TO JAIL LIFETIME.
Its been blocked because someone posted something about the king, that the thai government didnt agree with - -. Not because of Thaksin and CNN, they would of blocked CNN not Youtube.
i recon china
what happned to free speach and individuals rights?
how can thailand ever expect to become a free country when its government is a dictatorship adn blcoks freedom of peoples opinions?
Well, the name of Thai King is Bhumibol Adulyadetch, this is his picture > http://www.nzstudyth.com/images/thai_king.gif
First, the lese majesty law is NOT published by the king. This law was made about 200 years ago. Currently the reason that this law was NOT cancelled, is that Thai people DESIRES that law to be kept remaining. ==> The reason to support is that the King has done so much of good things to support Thailand to become better and better.
Once in his birthday in 1995, he said that the one who cannot be criticised is not human, and sometime he should be ciriticised so that he know what he does wrong.
THAI PEOPLE RESPECT THE KING, because HE IS THE IMPORTANT FIGURE IN THEIR LIFE and THEY COULD NOT STAND WHEN SOMEONE HURT WHO THEY LOVE.
I thing this should make it clearer.
It's doesn't matter about the freedom of opinions,or now, Thailand are governed by junta.
We, Thais,'re not shut our eyes for worldwide infos from the Junta.
The point that is unacceptable for Thai people is Youtube declined to remove an improper clip of the ridiculed images of our king, even be requested repeatedly from Thai ICT's minstry many times.
By the Thai law, if anyone criticize publicly to the king and royal family, that person will be send to the jail.
As a Thai, I'm also a Youtube fan. I love Youtube as a great edu-entertainment video-sharing site. But, Youtube, should consider and care more about sensitive-topic clips for people from other countries
You can ridicule our prime minister or whatever person on Youtube. 2 Things that are a taboo is our king and Buddhism.
Please understand.

This is stupid and ww already know that Thaksin is corrupt. You love Thaksin because he gives so much to you. You think he will benefit us, but you are wrong. Everyone is waiting for Thaksin to come back because then he will be at the court to receive the punishment from his wrong doing things.
Also to Eddie Fisher, the reason that Thaksin is not punished by the lese majesty law - is because there are a lot of people support him (because they get benefit from Thaksin).
Also the lese majesty law is remained there to prevent someone from hurting the one which most Thai people love.
As most of you see, even the very first video clip was removed. There are still lots of new ones, the SAME CLIP but DIFFERENT USER. Also there are so many paths to access a clip.
Thai junta govt don't want Thai people to see it because the govt don't want to hurt other Thai people who still don't know about this.
Actually, there are lots of people who know about this, is currently cursing the one who made this clip. It's the different of culture, and I think it is very difficult to make foreigner understand this difference in culture.
Please respect us.
You won't understand our feeling.
you don't know how much we love our King
whoever posted that Clip
i curse him to death, not only me but everyone in thai too
i saw a lot of people immediately cry when sawing that clip.Me too,of cause
(-/\-)
The freedom of speech must come with RESPONSIBILITY and RESPECT TO OTHERS (including individual, society, culture, and religion).
I agree with this opinion.
I don't defend that this govt is not corrupt. It is difficult for all the countries to get rid of corruption, right? Actually I don't like this govt much (they don't know how to do work), but they are still far better than Thaksin (who sell the sattelite to another country, and tried to avoid paying the $1b tax to the govt).
March 13, 2007Many of My Thai friends told me that now the Thai governmient try to close Thai people eyes and “accuse†the ex-prime minister as a very bad guy.
---------------------
I heard that he did corruption. So he is bad.
Turkey / Italy also ban youtube isn't it?
Youtube always keep problem clips. I think they use bad clips to generate traffic.
They shouldn't.
The King himself has said that people should not take this law so seriously.ARE YOU LISTENING TO HIM?????
The King himself has said that people should not take this law so seriously.ARE YOU LISTENING TO HIM????? FROM THE BLOCKERS, NO I HAVEN;T ALREADY SAID THAT
His act of against the lese majesty is clear and 'everyone' agrees to have him punished.
why the king he need to make that?bullshit........
Please...

You are also the one who bark as you know everything about Thai Government.
Can you say that "There is the government that never currupt in Thailand"?
Everybody care about "benefit" you know!?, but If he develop the country, it is good even he do the curruption
I don't care that Thaksin will come back or not but I hate this government because they destroy my country.
You said that he loves him because Thaksin gave much to him, but he was right! You are not the one who will die soon because this government's doing, so you don't understant their feeling like you say that the one who not Thai people won't understant Thai people's feeling.
The last thing is...
Can you answer these questions
- Why they destroyed everything that Thaksin made even it is good or not?[And don't care that some people will be die?]
- Why the government still can't answer to the word that why they kicked Thaksin out of country?[They said only he currupt???]
- You said that you are the one who are waiting Thaksin come back to get his punishment but I know that he want to come back but the government said "No", Why???
There are still more question to ask you but only these few questions, I know you can't answer clearly.
For these reason, please don't bark as a dog if you don't know the truth.
I believe it's because there's a video with a picture of the king with googly eyes.
does it mean that Laos depends on thailand to have acces to the net???
if someone have an answer please let me know :)
Who do you know the method to open web pls tell me. I like to enjoy video clip. Thanks.
