Mashable - The Social Media Guide: 2007/07/17/e-commerce-toolbox/

This is an excellent article but it only concentrated on let me say generic all encompassing web sites. There was little if any information on the small to medium sized specialty ecommerce sites. And since this is the holiday season, I believe that not covering the smaller specialty sites is a major oversight. There are a number of unique sites on line that should be covered. For example, there is a site for a watch seller that offers watches from over 125 brands, carries all different types of watches both analog and digital, but also offers a unique feature. Make them an offer. If you see a watch that you don't like the price on, if you make them a legitimate offer, you may well get your choice at your price. They won't sell you a $200.00 watch for 10 bucks, but a real offer will be considered. The site is www.KenmarWatches.com. I happen to be a watch collector with well over 300 watches currently in my collection, and quite a few from Kenmar. I have found them to be very honest with great service and competitive prices. I have not gone wrong so far with Kenmar and I doubt I ever will.

E-commerce is indeed a huge topic. We may need to break this down and go into more depth in future.

With all due respect, isn't Mashable about web 2.0... and more specifically social networking? A list of old school e-commerce sites (i.e. Yahoo Shopping, eBay) isn't exactly enlightening. I don't mean to sound cynical, but doesn't this stray a bit from the blog topic. These 30+ posts are great if you are building a directory, but I'm not convinced they are adding much value for a visitor interested in reading about social networks. Just my two bits...

    Cheers,
    Aidan

You missed Viewpoints Network - www.viewpoints.com - under reviews. They raised $5MM right off the bat, so they're definitely positioning themselves to be a formidable contender in the space.

Lauren on behalf of Wize here. In addition to collecting user and expert reviews, the site scores each product with a Wize Rank from 0-100 based on those reviews.

It should be an interesting space to watch in the future, as I think consumers are starting to realize that traditional search engines like Google may not be the best (nor the most time-efficient) way to conduct product research.

Shoppero? Leading E-Commerce Website? They are round about 2 months in the game and the english version about 2 weeks. How can they be a leading E-Commerce platform?

    Take Threadless.

I'm very disappointed to see ebates in this list. For those who don't know they are nothing but thieves. They encourage users to install their toolbar to overwrites affiliate cookies and steal commissions. Not only that, but they make it very difficult to remove the toolbar. So for example suppose you have the toolbar installed and you visit an established coupon site. You click the link on the coupon site and you proceed to make the purchase. The affiliate running the coupon site should earn the commission, but ebates will automatically overwrite the cookie and steal the commission with the toolbar. Ebates is not any better than the thousands of other parasites on the net.

    I agree with aidanhenry...

Instead of the usual google or ebay, how come you don't even mention people like Zlio.com ? Their concept is very innovative and 2.0: every one can have an online shop and sell all kinds of products in the matter of a few minutes.

This is what I call e-commerce revolution and social e commerce for one thing ! I think Zlio should even be
