I'll go along with Netflix wanting every movie streamable and it's the MPAA crowd stopping it.

The Netflix streaming is a great program. I think the big lesson here is that Netflix streaming isn't for everyone. Maybe one day it will be, but for now, let's just say that it is for people who are willing to take a chance on movies that are not popular.

I agree, I have a Netflix box and the selection is crap. Some of it is enjoyable (mostly I use it to watch bad television shows from the 80s and 90s), but I still find myself plugging a laptop into the TV so I can watch better content on Hulu, or waiting for the DVDs by mail.

It would be sweet if the Roku box (or Xbox 360) also played Hulu content.

I think what you're saying is the Netflix architecture and systems people are doing a great job extending Netflix as a content delivery channel, its just the Netflix content managers need to negotiate some better deals with more popular product.

Its an interesting case study that could be looked at in two ways:

    1) Its not a good idea to open 20 conveniently located restaurants in a city if the same food you sell at all 20 places sucks. You are doomed to fail.

    2) There is something to be said for a company that opens so many stores all over that map and gain such a market penetration that they get into a better position to negotiate with their suppliers (a la Wal-Mart).

I guess its a matter of where is the tipping point of market saturation where the channel drives the terms to the content provider.

I completely agree with you. I bought the Roku device and am very pleased with the functionality and the idea of it. But I am VERY displeased the the media selection. It just sucks. Sure there are a few things, but they should really step it up.

I watch more on hulu.com than I do on the Roku.

I have a Roku box and I'm hoping that the selection improves. There are something like 20 movies in my instant queue, but beyond that, nothing really jumped out at me.

There are over 12,000 movies on Netflix Watch Now. Some highlights right on the homepage: Blade Runner director's cut, Superman, Bella, Wyatt Earp, Malcolm X.

I flip over to my queue and see that of the 434 films on my queue, 64 of them are Watch Now. Not a lot of them to be sure, but 64 good films I can watch when I want instead of waiting for them in the mail, that's cool.

I have yet to use the feature because it doesn't work on Mac, but I'd definitely use it if I had the Roku player. Then I could watch some of the other films on my queue, like Nosferatu, The Motorcycle Diaries, Bridge Over the River Kwai, and more.

What you should really be complaining about is the poor quality, and lack of surround sound.

i, too, was sadly disappointed by the selection. i was going to get an xbox and a subscription to my spouse until i gave the trial a run... (to make a pun). while i was able to find a few gems for myself, there wasn't a reason to commit to a Christmas present towards. bummer. guess i'll have to wait until they make it worth my while. and the search for my lover's Christmas gift continues...

I am convinced that the instant selections at Netflix are pre-screened to ensure that they suck horribly. I take their cheapo, low-quality garbage as an insult because it illustrates a complete disdain for the customer on Netflix management's part.

After reading this guy's review, I'd like to say he's full of it. I LOVE my streaming Netflix and it has thousands of movies to offer. I'm sure Netflex will continue to improve this technology. The only complaint I have, is you can't back up as quickly as when using a DVD and it takes awhile to get the movie going. I think my DSL speed is not quite sufficient. My system does 1.5 but that is not Netflix's fault. As soon as I can afford to get more internet speed, I'll be totally happy. Netflix service is great and my movies come quickly in the mail. Bottom Line....Netflix Rocks.

I don't think he is full of it. I've tried the streaming and I didn't like the selection or quality. After using Netflix streaming on my Xbox for a few weeks I bought a VUDU Box and have been enjoying it ever since.

I'll stick with Xbox for games and not Netflix streaming.
