I might agree with the MySpace issue, but why would anyone not just use Last.FM. I've never had any problems finding bands there. Plus, for all you who trust wikipedia, I hope you realize there are sinister forces out there that intentionally screw with wiki pages just to aggravate you. Pick up a book kids.

Re: Fans Favor Wikipedia Over MySpace For Band Lookup

There is a lot of local bands on myspace that why there are so many and they don't count comedians. Comedians don't use a music page they use a comedians page.

Re: Fans Favor Wikipedia Over MySpace For Band Lookup

One problem for up and coming garage bands on wikipedia: Notability. http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

Your favorite local band might have trouble keeping a wikipedia page from becoming deleted, but not a myspace page.

Re: Fans Favor Wikipedia Over MySpace For Band Lookup

It's a question of motivation... is the user searching for the band to listen to some song? or is the user trying to find the modern day alt.music.* FAQ?

Since the blogger who posted this was only prompted to find more info after hearing the band on Pandora or last.fm, it's not likely to be the former. What's weird is that if he were already on last.fm, why's he searching the web instead of clicking straight over to http://www.last.fm/music/My... from his playlist? I figure that's all the info anyone could ever gonna need on them. :P

Re: Fans Favor Wikipedia Over MySpace For Band Lookup

You can directly listen to the song of the band with Qbox toolbar in Wikipedia pages. Qbox toolbar analyzes the text in a page and brings the related music from MySpace, YouTube, and Bebo. You can watch the video clips at http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Re: Fans Favor Wikipedia Over MySpace For Band Lookup

Another thing you can do: submit a decent photo under a free content license. (CC-by-sa preferred, full license policy here. This involves relinquishing control of the photo, but relinquishing control of the text sure worked for Wikipedia itself.)

Re: Fans Favor Wikipedia Over MySpace For Band Lookup

I'd also point out that MySpace's search feature sucks badly. You can type in the band's name correctly and they still won't show up. That's why I always go to Wikipedia first.

Re: Fans Favor Wikipedia Over MySpace For Band Lookup

If you are looking for a band. Then you should go to myspace b/c every band is on myspace. Myspace can make a band really big. look at TILA TEQUILA, Mindless Self Indulgence, JEFFREE STAR. None of the are sign to a label and the only reason they are big is b/c of myspace.

Re: Fans Favor Wikipedia Over MySpace For Band Lookup

Did MySpace steal your girlfriend or something?
