The hell you say. I'd seen this before with the Safari browser, but it was far less sexy than what you're describing.

what's the point? I want the web toolbar to allow logins so I can use it in Google Chrome with my account. If it only reminds me to sign up then its useless.

Personally I think is a excellent idea not having to download anything, but is good to have it as an option for those who will like to use the browser feature.... I think more people will start using the service now, not just geeks, and experience web users.

That's great. It was the main thing that put me off using StumbleUpon.

but i like the toolbar :o( i see the point for new visitors to get them engaged, but I hope the toolbar stays, at least for the major systems.

Having to go _through_ the site every single time to get somewhere will render it quite useless because that is a use for dummies. This of course is the majority of the users who surf the sites, but I assume that the people submitting the sites are the more experienced ones - and they will not really like that experience.

No, it only works as a "preview", you cannot rate. It's only to see how the real toolbar will look before to install.

I was hoping they enabled it to use a web based version, maybe a Greasemonkey script or something, because I hate to have another toolbar in my browser. And I don't use it too much, just for rating and send to friends.

SU, a web based version, or menu item version, would be great!

This post is incorrect. It's not a new web-toolbar to replace the actual toolbar. It's just a StumbleUpon marketing campaign to persuade people to install the toolbar. More details here:

Next time play with it before you post about it. ;-)

I'm assuming this is the first step to dealing with Google Chrome which apparently has no intention of supprting extensions in the near future. it may be just an advertising scheme at the moment, but if it works then I don't see any reason why it wouldn't replace the plugin toolbar. If it did I might consider the move to Chrome, it is quicker than FF.

Actually, I think the most interesting part of StumbleUpon's new features are still in beta. Stumbling is much more interesting if you have an account and use the toolbar, but the announcement about the toolbar also mentions how you can join the SU beta group and have access to a new site design which I like.
