WOW ! pretty impressive. Now we're going to be able to live events live and in the hands of normal users. TV is now dying for sure.

I work at TxtAHouse.com and we have added support for streaming videos to iPhone devices. We let real estate agants and home sellers to upload their property info (pictures and videos) to our website, and we give them a code they advertise with their property. When someone texts that code on their mobile phones, they are sent a link to mobile page with pictures and videos. The videos are in 3gp format for most camera phones that support this kind of video. For iPhone, we added m4v movies so they can be streamed to these devices also. Our server converts the uploaded movies automatically using H264 video encoding and AAC audio encoding. You can try our demo by texting LELE to 32075

Seems unlikely we'll be able to get this legitimately, given that they're doing something not available in the SDK.

The Flixwagon demo video has some pretty crappy video quality. Hopefully they will up the ante a bit for the real release.

With all this talk about jailbreaking, etc. they could be using a LEGIT version of the SDK that was seeded to developers. Did anyone think about that?

Does no one here know the difference between unlocking and jailbreaking? Let me clear it up for you:

Jailbreaking allows for the installation of unauthorized third-party applications. Unlocking allows for the iPhone to connect to other networks (Sprint, T-Mobile, foreign).

I'm sure Qik will be an authorized application, so neither jailbreaking nor unlocking will be necessary. I think it's silly for people to think that they wouldn't be able to release this product within the realm of the SDK.

Now please go search for eeal estate using your iPhone. Live video streaming is a thing of the past. Real estate searching; that's where it's at!

It's a shame to see two respectable companies participating in this pointless FUD generation.

If they've hacked the official Apple SDK to record video, they're violating the terms of use of that SDK and it's unlikely Apple would distribute such an app via the AppStore when it launches.

If they're using unlocked phones, that's a whole other (messy) ball of wax.

For the vast majority of consumers who do not choose to undergo the pain of unlocking their phones, there is currently no way to stream video from the iPhone, and it's pointless for Qik and FlixWagon to suggest that it's coming soon.

@Mike Vitoroulis: Whether he's using a jailbroken iPhone or not right now isn't the issue. Because a jailbroken phone is currently the only way to run third-party apps! I doubt either Qik or FlixWagon will require users to jailbreak their iPhones (certainly not unlock) in order to use their services; they'll develop within the contraints of the SDK.

People: think. Know the difference between jailbreaking and unlocking (looking at you JamesBruni).

I hope this is for the SDK and not for jailbroken devices. If you look carefully, the guy switches iPhones. The first one has the standard icons, but the second is using a Summerboard theme (meaning that iPhone has been jailbroken and is running the app...).
