Somehow I suspect/hope it'll be somewhat better to past atrocities, such as when the Hebrew tribes invaded and slaughtered their way through the land of Canaan , or when the Crusades slaughtered Jews and Muslims.

It's a shame that of two comments to this post, one is racist itself, and this shows how sensitive the topic "Islam criticism" is.
I think that this group should have been covered by "free speech", although I doubt that the creator of the group isn't Islamophobic. If he wants to criticize religion in general, which is what Atheists usually do, he should have criticized Catholicism, too.
@Keel_The Molla There is no "white race" - this is clear for many years. Just because the Nazis said so, it's not necessarily true!

I wonder if this were aimed at another religion if it would have been pulled? I can only hope Facebook is consistent and pulls any offensive speech or group against any belief in the name of unity, sensitivity and fairness.
Make Facebook a "safe" place for everyone. Maybe Facebook and its user could better police the site for religious intolerance against all religions and notify Facebook of the destructive speech. Destroy "destructive" speech.

I must agree with Roachly Jones. I am a Muslim and I don't ask for nor do I expect special treatment or protection. I have respect for all faiths and walks of life. For this, I'm not an outcast of the Muslim community but an actively participating member of my local community.
If you think Islam is not tolerant, then you're outright wrong. If you're just as tired of hearing that phrase "religion of peace" as I am, then that's fine, but if you think it's a lie then you are, once again, outright wrong. I grew up in the Middle East and, yes, there is sometimes anger toward , but that is politically motivated and not what the religion teaches. This may sound insensitive, but we are as much a victim of radicals as everyone else. I'm also an American, born in the U.S., so I also feel the pain of being a target, but I'm not quick to point the finger at a religion, but at a select few who've taken it hostage.

What do you expect? The whole world lives in fear of pissing Muslims off. If I made a group called "Death to all white people!" no one would bat an eye lid. If you want to have political correctness, then fair enough, but at least make it balanced.

This post is so unclear, you headline by saying the group was removed after user complaints, but in the last paragraph you say the group is live. Which is it?
Its one thing to not believe in, debate, or have issues with something. Its a whole other thing to visciously attack and belittle others. Athiests and theists are free to believe what they want, but neither side can or should attack the other as stupid or with obscenities.
And for those who make the argument "if this was about white people, no one would say anything," what kind of logic is that? your way of dealing with a situation is to bring up other hypotheticals? How about forming a rule for yourself, and sticking by it, rather than go after others for sticking up for their rules.

As a member of facebook and an Israeli, I come across "Israel is Lies" and "Boycott Israel" groups on Facebook every day - and these are the moderate of the bunch, some groups call for the destruction of my country and the mass genocide of everyone I know.
Personally, there's a deep feeling of insult that I find hard to shake off. I can imagine that some Muslim Facebook users felt similarly when they stumbled upon this group.
I don't think this has anything to do with sensitivity which is "extremely high". One doesn't need to be an over-sensitive individual to find such a group offensive. When many people group together to talk about how much they hate what you believe in, it hurts.
Good for Facebook for taking the group down.

Vicious, despicable anti-Christian comments such as those by Kathy Griffin (who speaks truth to power) should be celebrated and protected by the Freedom of Speech Clause of the First Amendment. Comments even mildly critical of Islam should be considered a hate crime. Why? The evil straight white christian males have all the power. Islam (like Judaism) has no power. Hate crime prosecution protects the powerless victims of evil straight white christian males.

I'm a muslim, and I'm proud to be. I don't think that this was a hate speech, cuz the guys just expressed his belief and disbelief to what Islam states.
But then again, I just read the comments in this link, didn't see the whole page.
If he doesn't feel Islam is for him, then so be it. He doesn't hurt Islam at all by not being one.
And for those who jumped right away to comment that Islam doesn't incourage free speech are just a bunch of people who just don't know it, but tend to talk to make others think they are educated and well informed. Shame on you.
Everybody is free to belive what they like, we are not to judge or throw punishment. All of us are gonna have a fair questioning form God himself after the end of life on earth.

It is interesting to see the trends as they form, right in front of us. I have a blog that covers news, politics, and pop culture. Social Networking and technology are forming the new changes in human behavior. Chat rooms forums, live talk. I have just started a Live Radio show. The point being that there are many new, economical ways to communicate on a large scale. Social networks form the core, because traditional word of mouth advertising is still highly effective.
Yes if they were Anti-jews they might end up in Prison (all Europeans and Americans agree on that , there is a red line what you might say against Jews ) Bravo Facebook for not allowing racist bigots on your site .

Heaven and hell are fables, prayer is a waste of time, and angels and jinn are obviously mythology. This is not a group against Muslims. They have it bad enough. If you doubt that go to Palestine. If you hate Muslims or are here to harrass them or promote your religion, go away. Muslims can be and usually are peaceful and respectful.

Dr. Tariq Ramadan came to SFU to talk about the ideas in his book Radical Reform: Islamic Ethics and Liberation. I had the opportunity to interview him as well as some Muslims who had interesting opinions and perspectives.
I don't understand why face book caved into these muslims like every one else does. Muslims are too sensitive. Why is it you tell me that it's perfectly ok for muslims to bash jews, christians and other non muslims? What about them having web sites bashing non muslims? OH but wait thats ok for them to do it. Truth is muslims cant take criticism. We non muslims need to start a petition to bring back the anti islam group. Seems to me there is a lot of double standard here by face book..I was under the impression that we have freedom of speech here, aparently not..
