Why use this over HighRise? At least with that you can load it on your iphone so you don't have to do any syncing.

I'll sign up for one of these services when I can choose to run it on my computer (in a common open source application) or on their service, and synchronize between the two. Until then, it would be stupid to trust your life data this way.

@davidm - if I didn't keep backups regularly (weekly at this point), I'd agree, but then it's stupid to use any application (web or otherwise) without appropriate backup methodology.

@Robert - HighRise is cool, too, but when I tried it, I didn't see the functionality that I laid out in my post. Does it let me parse by tag, and does it let me download that parsing into a specific CSV? That's the cool part to me, not just that it's a contact manager. There are tons of those.

    Chris,

You can select a tag from the right sidebar of the contacts "tab" in Highrise, select another if you'd like and click "export" in the top right of the sidebar and it will export just contacts in those tags to vcard, CSV or whatever.

    Hope that helps ;)

@chrisbrogan, what I mean is not backup, but signing over your very intimate interactions to a basically unknown web based service.

    Chris,

Thanks for showing off this service. I had not heard of it before, and currently I am going crazy trying to keep information in sync. Seems like a new service keeps popping up all the time.

Myself, I use Plaxo to sync with my Outlook, so that can sync with my iPhone, that in turn syncs with Mobile Me. At one point I had Plaxo syncing with Google Calendar as well so my appt setters could book sales calls for me.

Before the iPhone I had contacts in sync on my BlackBerry and Microsoft exchange servers.

What else have you seen, or has anyone else seen that can make life easier for people like myself to keep life in sync? Keeping so many services going is crazy frustrating.

I am going to check out the BatchBook system as well... I think.

Would CircleUp.com be considered a competitor of Batchbook.com? Or does anyone know who else is in this area?

I use a variety of services for contact management, including Word Press. I don't like to rely on only one web solution, just in case. I'll check this out to possibly add to my arsenal.

Hi Chris,Since you are looking at these kind of solutions it might be of interest to you that we launch SmibsNet and Doorbell on October 21st into (at first invitation only) beta.

SmibsNet is a professional network that also serves as a platform for small business productivity apps. Doorbell is the first application of a line to come on this network. Doorbell is the first Sales Software for Non-Sales people. The combination of the network with the applications allows you to build a team based on your social / professional network and then collaborate on your opportunities and projects. Drop me a line if you're interested to get a seat for the beta.

    Best, Peter
