Nonetheless, Twitter has limited a lot of accounts owned by people who have a lot less than 2000 friends.
How hard is it to have a "report this user" feature and limit accounts with a large amount of complaints against it?
In the meantime, Twitter just goes about their business and limits the accounts of all the "A-Listers", the same people that helped Twitter become popular in the first place.
Having a limit restricts the number of connections and near needless calls when users pull up their profile pages. And with twitter now owning summize, they provide a much cleaner solution for drinking out of the firehose.
My advice, enjoy the freedoms of less is more, track you replies and if there is something you really want to follow watch summize.
His self-description?
"Internet Marketing Consultant who specializes in Social Media, Viral and Search Engine Marketing."
Dude needs to be drug out and beaten like a rag doll with all the other scammers, spammers, and shit heads.
Apparently, he thinks joining the conversation means only if you have something that paints him in a good light. Total fucking moron.
@Bill, I like the term "slop" to describe these people and content. How do we institutionalize it?
There are some great domains available, and I know the owner of "slop dot com" (still wants too much for a small project to set up tho). Somewhere to expose the "social media syndrome" would be great (a valleywag contributor expressed interest as well, still attempting to contact drama2.0). Have to be top 5 in search results for their name to be effective I believe.
I'm on-board, show me the way. Delicious tag: SLOP
What is next, limit in feedreaders to 5 blogs because "that is all i can follow so you should not do different"?
I am all for managing problems, making a platform stable and everything, but please do not try to put your limitations on other people.
You can see clearly how many people somebody is following and followed by, it is your decision who you want to follow or not, who you want to publish to or not. It is not your decision to determine how I use such a system.
Just wondering how this adds 2 the mix [+ potential Twitterverse exodus]?:

[I'd write a mashable article about it, but the Adam Twins can't be prodded in2 correspondence action;)].
No need 2 apologise, sir. 'Twould b my distinct pleasure 2 offer u a quick explanation as 2 y Twitter [+ other microblogging services such as Identi.ca] actually do matter. + I'll use a basic example based on ur proffered linkbait [ie the website u've chosen 2 link directly ur name]. Imagine 4 a moment that this link that shoots straight 2 ur MySpace page isn't filled with blatant self-promotion with stylized comments on a customisable template, but instead contains legitimate "ins" [focal communication points] where ur listeners/acquaintances/[wannabe?]groupies can exchange insights/snippets/tidbits with each other. Imagine, if u will, the implicit joy of said ppl actually exchanging everyday life-stuff thru a funkay/fit/wicked space designed by smart myopic weevils [ie techheads] who cry tears of joy every time a user gets their immersion wings.
Starting to get the messy picture Timbo? The reason micro-blogging services matter is that they act 2 connect ppl who want 2 share their "bits" [in all their cruddy glory] + provoke engagement with content that doesn't simply act 2 promote/flog/spew info that any o' advertising blipvert can....
Btw ur muzac isn't half bad.
Good call. I must say, tho, if ppl comment "I don't understand [insert ur choice of sparkling-soc-net] blah start-up" that's fine - just gives us a chance 2 burble explanations. Timbo seems itchingly negative about microblogging generally, which smacks of ignorance or self-promotion.
Tho, Timbo dearest, if u do write back with a astoundingly well-craft retort with relevant reasoning as *y* u assume micro-blogging is a crushingly huge time-waster + manage to work in the issue under discussion [follow-throtting] I'll be happy 2 eat my [obviously stylish] credibility shorts.
Why? Because friends are important, even those you wouldn't want to meet in a gajillion years. Real friends are there when you need someone to talk to or have a drink with. Virtual friends are there when you need that One vote to get you to the front page or post your blog for you after you've been banned from a social media site.
Social media spamming and shilling needs its own name. Maybe pork rinds (or some derivative) could be a good term. Rinding? You Rind? Slop?
I wanna create a slop snooper and a slop killer.
All these social media consultants need to be outed for shit-bags they are.
