Thanks for mentioning Poolr! I was the lone Rails developer on our team, although we had an amazing graphic artist, as well as a member who did some great research and even pitched in on the CSS. I like your ideas for the site, and we'd certainly like to help manage carpools, not just play matchmaker :)

We'll be launching the fuller, production version early next year. Still looking for the best city to launch with! We're also looking to develop an office version in parallel that will be open-source, for companies to support the carpooling efforts of their employees.

Scratching my own itch, My tool helps users engage with their contacts in their address book.

Our contacts have a wide range of interests that vary over time.
Needless to say, it is hard to keep track of what they are and as a result when we have something to share, we are not exactly sure which of our contacts are interested in it. So we end up either sending it to those that are not quite interested or not sending it to the right person.
We miss an opportunity to engage.

EngageVia allows you to tag yourself and tag your contacts in your address book and when you get ready to share something, simply tag the content and the tool handily tells you which of your contacts are interested in it so you can send it only to them.

What you see in the competition is only a prototype,
plans are there to extend it with more features to make engagement with your contacts more realistic.

Integration with Upcoming and other event syndications are already on cards. We will be introducing whole bunch of improvements to the app after RailsRumble ends. Also, We are planning to open source the app so anyone could customize it for their own conferences.

@meetinbetween.us - if it finds the halfway point between infinite locations, that makes it even more useful to travelers like myself who want to meet friends while on the road.

Everyone did a great job! It was extremely difficult to narrow it down to ten to mention here. :)

Thanks for the mention of SoundFolder! The aim when designing and coding it was to make it as simple for both artists and consumers to use and to get rid of the annoying social networking side of things and focus on just delivering the music - it's all about the music.

The Rails Rumble comp this year has provided some really good competition - will be interesting to see who takes out the prizes!
