the title of your comment is very bad just because 2 days of statistics of a FREE service ( that is very good) were not registered doesnt mean that the service is plagued with problems....

The new version of Google Analytics is totally insane (thatâ€™s a good thing). As a search engine marketer, I rarely accessed the Google Analytics console. For me, it was nothing but a group of pretty pictures and graphs, some interesting numbers telling me from where in the world my visitors were coming from, and how long they were staying there. Google Analytics, for me, didnâ€™t provide any information that I could take away and make any major changes.

I was certain that I simply did not understand what the reports were telling me, or where I needed to go to drill down to the reports that would give me the business information I needed to improve my site, my pages, and thus my visitor experience.

Pete - I actually noticed an interesting difference between the two. The new design actually updates several hours after the old design. It's a pretty interesting move since you conceivably want users to use the new version and not take advantage of the option to view the old Google Analytics. Nice disincentive...

We had much the same issues as described, but for a free product you can hardly complain. My biggest gripe with the new GA is the inability to view the current day in any detailed way, it was an offering of the previous version and I can't understand why they removed it.

Yes -- we saw this problem. We were comparing our GA numbers with separate Urchin ones for user visits, and we knew something went wrong yesterday when the curves trended in opposite directions.

I havn't seen the data problem, but had real problems with page load times when it first went live. Since then it appears o.k!

The analytics has always had some periods where the stats didn't update right away. That's nothing new and I don't really see a problem with that.

The problem is that some major functionality is missing in the new system, and I don't agree that the new system has greater usability than the old one.

when i try to open the pdf export in new analytics using foxit reader after i download it, my machine crashes - very efficiently, i might add.

this doesn't happen for any other pdf files i have ever come across

Intermittent problems/delays have been par for the course for Analytics since I have been using it (about a year and a half). It has been better in recent months though aside from yesterday's problems.

I would expect that Google takes a huge amount of care with the data. If a box here or there goes missing then you can reprocess the original data as long as you have it, and all you have are minor downtime issues.

BTW -- when you contact GA about data reporting this is one of the canned notices you receive.

"Due to occasional system maintenance, you may experience temporary delays or gaps in data. Please rest assured that none of your data has been lost and your data should be populated within 72 hours."

Okay -- your report made me nervous because we use it for all of our clients. I just checked it and it did prompt me to create a new account for one client -- a heavy analytics user too.

I logged out as me and logged back in just as them and all was well.

I've found a few random glitches like this as Google has been rolling out the upgrades. I'm finding that if I fight the urge to panic and just give it a minute that it's actually just a small glitch.

I'm betting the lapse in tracking is temporary, for those that have experienced it, they do occasionally have a reporting lag.

I have had a few issues with error pages. Other than that, I like it.

I am still trying to find some of the data in the new set up that I could get in the old one.

Could the sheer complexity of Google's "infinite scalability" be causing part of the problem?

It seems to me that lots of different locations redundantly running the same services and staying in sync 100% of the time might introduce its own problems. Add to the mix, incorporating a variety of acquisitions and new services. But, I'm nowhere near technical enough to opine on this topic.

My stats were off for about 22 hours or so between May 22, 9PM and May 23, 7PM (GMT). I still use the old analytics interface but yeasterday I noticed that after the stats where up and running again, the new analytics wasn't updating at all. This morning everything seemed to be running smooth again. The data is safe tough. Just an hick-up I guess :)

I had the same problem that you described above. The new analytics is pretty slick looking, but i still find myself returning to the original version to see how my site is doing today, a feature that i think is missing in the new interface, or at least hard to find.

There are bugs, but this is a very well developed upgrade. It is much easier and intuitive to use.

And it is one of the few web based trackers that allows you to analyze the search engines individually for the search terms they are each bringing to your site or analyzing the queries individually for their collective search engine traffic.

Between Google analytics, sitemeter and statcouter - you can find out vitually any bit of info you could possibly need at any given time by using their collective free services

Probably, I was too early to come to a conclusion. Yes. It is messed up and data is lost for the past 2 days. For one site, it is ok. But it is messed up for others.

I have been using Google Analytics on 6 of my blogs/websites. I didn't face this issue at all. Even now I am getting updated data.
