No, Google Checkout users might not particularly like eBay's bullshit excuses that Google isn't an established merchant- that, and it just makes eBay look bad- but from a corporate standpoint, I can see where it wouldn't be in eBay's best interest to just GIVE a competitor like Google an edge over Paypal for free. This is big money we're playing with, kids.

My forecast is that it's probably just a matter of time before they make the right deal.

1) eBay gets a few cents per transaction
2) eBay get's a set percentage of each transaction.
3) Google gives eBay a chunk of high quality advertising in exchange.
4) A combination of 1-3.

All in all, I think people should be wary of Google and try to see behind the smoke and mirrors. At least eBay doesn't hide their agendas.

If you were eBay, would you freely hand over the market share?

Actually, now I've thought about it. I think that gAuction.com, GoogleAuctions.com or even gBay.com sound good to me ;-) Payment system google checkout or anything you want to use including crappy expensive PaynoPal. How about this then, free listing with a final value fee or even a listing fee with no final value fee. Come on Google, please do it ;-)

Iâ€™ve never heard so much crap in my life. Nochex is a secure system and eBay have banned it as well. Nochex have been around for years. I accept Nochex and Moneybookers on my auctions and have never heard a thing from eBay about it. If I mention Google they might freeze my account. Well in that case they should have frozen my account ages ago because all my listings for years have always mentioned Nochex. I donâ€™t accept Paypal because I've had a number of fraudulent problems with it but never with Nochex and Moneybookers. eBay are just running scared of Google just like Yahoo, thats why they have teamed up together.

eBay and Google may continue to play nice for now, but there's no doubt in my mind that Google Checkout is a direct threat to the PayPal's growth if not their established bread and butter business. Just have a look at what the gumshoo.com blog has to say about it. A head-on collision is just a matter of time.

Brett, I don't think so. eBay is probably one the highest paying advertisers on Google Adwords. That won't happen in this lifetime.

It's time for eBay to decide what business they are in - and maybe look for a buyer for paypal (or integrate it to skype for pro-services payments). Checkout is going to be HUGE in b2c - now that eBay's attracted so many b's, they aren't going to be able to keep checkout out of auctions and also keep their bigger vendors - it will be one or the other.

I don't think people would move so easily over just because its google. The statement makes it sound almost as if its inevitable that people are going to adopt google checkout if it were paypal vs. google checkout. We don't know that. It'll be interesting to watch..

Well of course they're going to ban Google, they're a competitor to PayPal. Standard operating procedure? Sure - keep the competition out. Why would eBay risk one of their business units? It's not malicious, and only just barely news-worthy
