I don't see this working out too well for Yahoo

College students will say that Facebook doesn't help you get you a job; it's for getting laid. And linkedin is too corporate, boring and filled with old people who themselves are struggling for 'connections'. What-ever.

So, Kickstart doesn't *have* to live in the shadows of either competitor, if it's actually useful to people. But execution is the big unknown here.

My advice to Yahoo: Buy bebo, if u have tried it in past, try again, Make an offer they can't refuse.

Thats the only way to complete with facebook and linkedin. Building one more social networking site is a very bad idea with so many floating around already.

Here's a radical concept: quit letting Yahoo!360 (and its millions of registered and thoroughly disappointed and neglected users) rot on the vine.

When Yahoo! overhauled their main page, they didn't shit-can their brand and relaunch as a new company. When they upgraded Yahoo!Mail and Yahoo!Messenger, they kept their users and their brand and improved their product. They've made faltering (and entirely inadequate IMO) steps in this direction with Yahoo!Groups; why can't Yahoo!360 be overhauled using the Y!UI library and a little TLC?

Here is something about professional networking site everyone tend to forget. The purpose. To get a job. But what happens if hiring managers can't look at your profile becuase you have a picture. You lost your chance. Social networking is "cool" for job search or professional networking but it will not produce any results. Compare Jobster and Linkedin. Jobster is ready to close shop but when they first started everyone was hu-hu-ha-ha'ing them and predicted that the future of job search is on social networking. Look where they are now. (they have changed their business focus about 3 times now). They were able to attract users but not recruiters or hiring managers which defeats the whole purpose of job / professional networking.

Now look at Linkedin. It is filled in more recruiters and hiring managers than any other sites. Why? Becuase their system works best with HR. Remember if HR were to change their system to accomodate social networking, discrimination laws need to be changed and billions of dollars need to be spend to update the whole HR system. That is why we are still sending 1 or 2 resumes when applying for jobs.

Kickstart may successful find a better balance between the strengths and weaknesses of Facebook vs LinkedIn. I find the two attract quite different kinds of people who often have differing goals. This has led me to write an article about how Personality Styles affect Web 2.0:

You forgot to mention -- Yahoo! owns HotJobs =)

it's just the same concept as a Chinese community owned by one of the top 10 portal Sohu.com called Chinaren.com

if Yahoo wants to beat facebook and linkedin, it really needs something really new and attractive.

    Good luck!

More confusion as it has become more difficult to decide which service to use. With so many choices, some which are backed by companies like Yahoo and Google, it becomes difficult for a person like me to choose a service to use.

    What do you think?
