"The death toll rises in Gaza" is a miserable start to this article. So is your subject line. Perhaps you can also track the number of missiles that Hamas launched on Israeli towns in the past 7 years or the number of Skaads launched since the cease fire ended. As a tech blog, I doubt you’re sufficiently informed to take a stand. Providing the various social media platforms and tools would have been sufficient.

    Ravit,

No matter how you spin it, the civilian death toll IS rising in Gaza. That's simple fact, regardless of Israel's intent.

Thanks for this article. To counter Dan, I'd say you should follow @sameh_habeeb, who is tweeting from the ground in Gaza.

    Awesome article, thanks!

Ravit, we're not taking stand. The post is about finding and tracking all types of related information as it happens.

One has to mention Twitscoop - http://www.twitscoop.com/twits/search?q=gaza

@Ravit, no matter if you like it or not, Palestinian Civilians are dying by the second. And you can't compare F-16s to firecrackers.

I would add the following websites:

    B'Tselem: http://btselem.org/English/index.asp
    AlJazeera Interactive Conflict Map: http://labs.aljazeera.net/warongaza

There is also Tweetag which automatically generate tagclouds of the most talked topics related to any given topic.
If you go on http://tweetag.com/gaza you can directly see that people are mostly talking about Ceasefire, rocket, hamas, ...
You can even put this "Gaza topics cloud" on your blog with the widget.

Jenn, your articles are always well-written and informative. Thanks.

Who's Talkin turned out to be a bountiful resource and was also great for
distributing my blog post on the conflict in Gaza:

When are these countries not going at it, what happen to the good old days
when one country defeated another and it was over. Tis a crazy world...

It's called assymetrical warfare and it's the crux of the problem for Israel.
And why they might benefit from some more nuanced, unorthodox tactics in
    taking on Hamas.

Allvoices.com has set up a page called The Events in Gaza, tinyurl.com/97v9go - to which citizen journalists can contribute via their cell phone

You can also get notifications of when Hamas indiscriminately fires either Qassam Rockets or Grad Missiles into 15% of the Israeli population on an hourly basis.

You can either follow @QassamCount on Twitter or (if you want to have your status on FB automagically updated, you can install the QassamCount facebook app: http://apps.facebook.com/qassamcount/.

    Hi,

Follow me on Twitter http://twitter.com/latestgazanews for latest Gaza news
  • engin · 11 months ago
I would actually not follow and potentially filter out (ban) @fromisrael and alikes, since they are less about delivering news/updates and more about propaganda. You can track real time updates FROM EVERYONE at monitter, add filters like #gaza, #palestine, and #israel

Citizen-journalism sites like Demotix (http://www.demotix.com) are a great way to see these sorts of conflicts from a raw and personalized perspective - just what social media is all about.
  • Tom Phillips · 11 months ago
Interestingly, someone seems to be trying to disrupt the Twitter #gaza channel - there's a couple of bots churning out #gaza hashtagged tweets that are nothing to do with Gaza (they're just republished tweets from other people, with the word "love" replaced by "#gaza"). They're now dominating any search for it.

Newsflashr provides all the latest coverage of the conflict from
many of the top news sources:

The news search function also pulls from a wide variety of sources
    including mainstream and social sites.

    @Tom Phillips:
Tweetag is great for that because it allows you to have a view of all the different topics being discussed about #gaza.
And you can drill down by clicking on topics to only filter topics you are interested in.

Have a quick look at http://tweetag.com/gaza

I like this post, it shows how news junkie we have become since 9/11.
Hope we all take enough hindsight on the current events in Palestine.
