Corporate blogs are still great for a couple of reasons:

1. It gives you insight to a company's PR strategy
2. You hear the "voice" of the company
3. Its (sometimes) the first place to get announcements
4. Its a good place to gather quotes for your own blog

We love our corporate blog for not only PR reasons but we want to be able to use it touch base with our readers. While so far we've only used it in a PR sense, I'd love to begin using it as a "get to know you tool", see what I mean at http://blog.sheknows.com

I would have liked to see examples of more established corporate brands using blogging well. The examples given are reflective of "newer" brands/entities. In the author's opinion, what "old school" companies are doing it right? And if they are failing, why?

Did you see all the stuff on the Intel blog too? http://channel.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=...

Very well stated! I think: "I love corporate blogs because at the very least, they provide a human element to something that is devoid of emotion, understanding, and personality." hits exactly how I feel about corporate blogs.

People love stories, and love to know that their favorite bookstore (in my case) has a life. We care about our customers and have our own personality. Sure it helps us connect, and hopefully strengthen our customer relationships which helps us sell more, but I love talking and interacting with our customers - not only does it add emotion to the corporate entity, it adds it back to your customers who are often just names/addresses in a database!

So on our blog you'll find we write about books sometimes, and life sometimes, and stuff we're doing on our site. But it's not PR corporatese it's real

Very true...Infact whenever we're approached by clients we say that the blog should hold a character that goes beyond just self adulation

Not only has blogging (and entering into the social media space in general) been the most fun I've had in PR in almost 10 years, but our readers seem to be enjoying the Graco corporate blog as well. We don't use the blog to "message" or push products - we simply use it as a way to connect to our customers in an authentic and real way. The voice of the Graco blog is simply that of parents who get what other parents are going through and celebrating the joys of being parenthood. That seems to be a "message" parents enjoy hearing and one they continue coming back to hear.

I agree with this post and Gavin about showing a company's personality and a little bit about the people behind a faceless corporation. That was at the root of what we were trying to do - this becomes a good way to build trust as well.

Most importantly, a corporate blog unifies a team. http://blog.fluidesign.com/

We at Mahindra & Mahindra have recently started a corporate blog. www.mahindrauniverse.com. It is not really a blog where we market our companies but we do try to keep Mahindra in our posts and conversations.
One of our bloggers who has to travel a lot for work has become popular through his travelogue posts!
So as Lindsay mentioned corporate blogging can be a lot of fun.

Hi Don,

Thanks for mentioning ZillowBlog in this post; we're flattered! Blogging is having a major impact on the marketing of real estate and real estate agents' services and ZillowBlog has been an effective way for us to participate in that community.

there is alot of controversy around corporate blogging... most corporates avoid it cause like you said... people can go on there and complain and then they are forced to respond immediately.. (which is a good thing for us!)

Hi everyone! I’ve found a great dating affiliate program for webmasters. Their conditions are very appealing as when you get someone to register you get 10% of his registration! Afterwards you’ll get 15% for the registration of someone he introduces and for the next link in the chain you’ll get 20%! However, you’ll be receiving the percentage only as long as the people involved pay their membership fee! I guess that’s one of the most interesting programs on the net! And the whole dating site is very interesting with a huge number of services.
