Here is my favorite of the year. It's titled, "Changing the World on the Web." I think it has a very positive message, and brings up a number of good questions. I hope you enjoy:

One thing Twitter can't do (without Twitpic) is share images quickly and efficiently, like a blog can. I'm not sure if this is my "best" post, surely that is up to the readers, but it's probably one of my favorite picture posts: http://somebodyunfamous.blogspot.com/2008/10/ha...

And this is my most picture-laden post: http://somebodyunfamous.blogspot.com/2008/12/4-...

Best of luck to everyone on getting featured!

Thanks Pete! It's hard to pick one post as my favorite for 2008, but I chose this one from January, since I know you and your audience are Twitterholics like me. It is called "Gone Fishin' In The Twitter Stream." Enjoy, and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I've written a lot of blog posts this year and cross posted many pieces of information.

My best blog post of the year is actually one of the pages on my blog about the book I wrote this year (and published on the kindle). As described it was a book written based on stories of my grandfather that my father told me as he himself was dying of cancer. I took those stories and created a science fiction story with my grandfather as the central character.

This post generated the most traffic, and many responses (both electronic and verbal) about writing, the period in history my grandfather lived, religion, science, and science fiction. It was and is the closest thing to the adage about 15 minutes of fame

I decided to let my readers decide. I went into HaveAMint and Google Analystics (my stats rpograms) and looked up my most popular post for 2008 using the criteria of the most visited landing page.

It was a tie, dead even between Working With Gen Y, Gen X and Boomers (http://uptownuncorked.com/2008/11/13/working-wi...) and What's In Your Social Media Toolbox (http://uptownuncorked.com/2008/10/24/whats-in-y...).

I have to admit, I was surprised that those were the most popular posts. This proved to be a great way to see what people really read on my company's blog versus what I hope they read.

Accidental Creative Problem-Solving ... On Purpose?
I was working on a story titled “All-Time-Worst Pitch … Made Me Rich,” when I ran into a perplexing problem. A total roadblock. How to simplify a complex story - one that involved quantum physics, cancer, depression, hope against all odds and the ephemeral topic of “miracles?”

The story was about a terminally ill cancer patient. He also happened to be a licensed clinical neuropsychologist and an international best-selling author who actually ended up surviving his “terminal” illness, after dying, not once, not twice … but three times.

In terms of 'best' the following post on my blog had the most hits: http://dakinane.wordpress.com/2008/07/07/flying...
I had just flown back from a conference in Europe and was lucky enough to fly on the A380. I joined a debate on Wired about the relative values of the 747 versus the A380 and that attracted a lot of hits, hence being my best post of 2008. The main thrust of my blog is charting the changes at the school I work in to integrate ICT into the curriculum, I would welcome more visitors. In a year when I had a speaking engagement every month, often on using social media for communications, I found a way to bridge from a live talk to the social media world, and it yielded two posts: On my business blog, don't get caught news & info, I posted an "e-handout" for a talk on social media that included taking video of the audience's questions, which also were posted and answered on the blog; see http://www.dontgetcaught.biz/webdocs/blog/2008/.... And on The Eloquent Woman, my blog on women and public speaking, I looked at that experience from the speaker's point of view, focusing on what it's like to turn your presentation over to the audience in that way, at http://eloquentwoman.blogspot.com/2008/08/engag.... Another blogger said of this post that he'd love it as an audience member, and wondered how many other speakers would be brave enough to try it!

Dunno if it's my BEST post of 2008 but this one got the most hits:

It's a report on my first-ever vacation with GPS -- apparently it's illegal in Egypt which I didn't realize until after I got back!

My best post of all of 2008 eclipsed all traffic reports by 4X anything I have ever done.

It was a casual post, I did in about 1 hour

I was inspired to write it one day when I was thinking about the "C Suite"
(the typical target for a business in consulting) and wondering if they twitter?

So a quick play on words and I came up with C Tweet
and bought a vanity URL http://www.ctweets.com to promote my list of C Suite Tweeters

A few references on Twitter and it still is paying dividends weeks later
also my twitter followers have doubled to 1000

    I'm voting for two blogs.

First, my own because it's one of the few blogs exclusively about semantic web
development which is going to change the shape of the www next year.

The second one is http://stevehays.co.uk which is a blog-o-centric website
called the Never Ending Audition written by a jobbing Scottish actor about his aventures trying to get work, auditioning, appearing in films, TV and theatre. Kind of a Celtic Entourage without the overblown, ludicrously wasteful lifesyle.

...I don't know if writing about wine is changing the world, especially a world that

We had a lot of interesting posts, but my favorite would probably have to be a recent post
in which I reviewed a nice Cabernet, but in the context of an impromptu get together where
the only drinkware available was a pack of foam cups. None of that mattered though, what
mattered was that good friends and good wine got together and raised a glass... err... cup.

As a litblogger, I love blogging because it combines the urgent ability to comment on current events, web trends, links to the blogosphere, with the possibility of a more considered, thoughtful essayistic style of writing. I love thinking in a way that is interconnected, which blogging allows both through hotlinks to other posts and articles, and through the build-up of posts on your own blog and the comments it attracts. No-one's really done for literature what MySpace has done for music, or YouTube for film, but I think both Salt Publishing's Salt Confidential (and their blog author tours) and the PEN Atlas and blog -- favourite post -- are taking a "crunchy" approach that brings together the literate and the blogerate.

My blog talks about "tradigital" forms of communication.... that is, the combination of traditional media such a
printing, packaging, and promotions with digital applications. Our company, The Bevilacque Group, produces
the tried and true classics but with a "twist." Everyone is looking to increase sales these days and we think of
strategies and products that will help do exactly that.

I haven't blogged in a month because I'm having a lot of trouble with our providers - Network Solutions and
Word Press - but the post refers to BLOG DOLLARS
    December 1st, 2008 · No Comments

Blah blah blah blog. Everyone’s a blogger these days and all types of companies continue to hire freelancers. It’s amazing how little is paid per post. In this month’s issue of Direct Marketing, “go figure” strategies discuss how “copy trumps art.” That, when an ad’s intent is to motivate a response, then it’s about persuading, selling, and motivating the customer to act. The appeal is delivered in “words and sentences.” Direct marketers pay close attention to copy and design second. Hmmm… Colin Wheildon’s book, “Type and Layout” is referred to and some very interesting concepts popped up. Namely 1. Bold type is less legible than standard type 2. Red type or any other color is harder to read in body copy and 3. Serif type is easier to read than many contemporary typefaces.

I guess my perpetual dislike of red either in marketing material or fashion meant I was on the right track all along! Now, all we need to do is change most of our copy, alter the RED logo, and perhaps locate my calligraphy pen last seen in 1980.

HERE I am, an old man in a dry month,
Being read to by a boy, waiting for rain.
I was neither at the hot gates
Nor fought in the warm rain
Nor knee deep in the salt marsh, heaving a cutlass, 5
    Bitten by flies, fought.
My house is a decayed house,
And the jew squats on the window sill, the owner,
Spawned in some estaminet of Antwerp,
Blistered in Brussels, patched and peeled in London.
    The goat coughs at night in the field overhead;
    Rocks, moss, stonecrop, iron, merds.
The woman keeps the kitchen, makes tea,
Sneezes at evening, poking the peevish gutter.
    I an old man,
A dull head among windy spaces.

This was my favorite post of the year, because I was able to capture the fraud of the presidency of George W. Bush and bookend it with video examples of how real people felt about him being placed in this position of power against the will of the people. If you watched the networks or the cable stations exclusively, you would have thought Bush had the complete support of the country and the world, but thanks to the Internet, the truth remains and this piece pointed it out. Unfortunately, I wrote and posted this before the infamous shoe throwing incident - maybe that can serve as an epilogue to Geore W.'s failure.

My best post of the concerns the MySpace suicide trial of Lori Drew and, in particular, her motion for a dismissal (after the verdict). This story was not picked up widely and, unlike the other blogs covering it, Digital Advisors was the only one (that I know of) that analyzed Drew's legal arguments for dismissal. This post was picked up on a few other sites but it was by far the most fun for me.

My best blog post of 2008 was one I wrote about the death of Greater Manchester Police Chief Constable, Michael Todd. I actually took a month off from writing my blog in order to research and write just this one post - but it was well worth it. The post generated lots of comments and e-mails (I was even contacted by one of Todd's ex-lovers!) I'm going to write a follow-up in January about all the information (some of it quite strange) that the blog post churned up. The original post (posted in April and re-posted in November) is called 'Chief Constable Michael Todd: A Strange Death, a media smear campaign, inconsistent reporting, dark-suited spooks, and more questions than answers...'

This year I decided to speak out against my job, my company, my industry, and all the evils that I commit for a paycheck. Years of working with Marketers and Market Researchers had blackened my soul. I was sick of constantly thinking about how the corporations I serve have degraded into a shameless race to the bottom, where money is all that matters and people don't matter at all. Every day, within my circle of work friends, we repeated the same sentiments of anger and frustration mixed with in equal parts with guilt and self-loathing, but none of use had the courage to speak out publicly and DO something about it. These things needed to be said because they are wrong and the silent majority go along with it despite our conscience only because we fear being singled out and being made into an example if we step out of line. I'm sick of toeing the line, and I'm hellbent on spreading heresy -- the good kind :-).

This post is not as anarchic as some of the others, but this is the one where I finally found my voice: http://www.mrheretic.com/2008/11/customers-vs-c...

Prohibit Portly Patrons to Cover Corporate Crime
We are all angry at the bail out bill, Wall St swindles and countless other ways we have been taken advantage of. Yet we refuse
to see ways in which we are distracted. Surverys have said women believe their number one problem is their weight.
The encouragement of weight obsession by the powers that be is no accident. We are so focused on looking down
at our scales we can't look up to see what is really going on. The above is my commentary on why a Mississippi politician
and former employee of DuPont Merck would sponsor a bill prohibiting restaurants from serving fat patrons at the very
same time DuPont Merck was setting with the government for defrauding medicaid. The old sand in your eyes trick.
Sadly, so many readers ranted against fat people but no rage toward DuPont. We had better wake up and see one
very effective way the wool is being pulled over our eyes!

In truth the name should have been "Women is the Nigger of the World: As Demonstrated by the Twisted logic Celebratrions after the elections of 2008"

History was not made - No- I maintain as do up to one half on this nations citizenry who is taxed yet not fully represented, history will not be made until every enslaved, mistreated or otherwise unrepresented citizen is equally represented, until Jeremiah Wright does not call anyone a nigger, until no women is ever again called a cunt, until women support other women whether they fully agree on every issue or not and until a woman is elected as president of the United States of America.

Then let there be dancing in the streets and celebrations in every home and tears of joy to celebrate a truly historic accomplishment to be proud of. "Hey, big boy, can I recycle your cardboard?" got the most Diggs and was picked up by USNews.com and Huffington Post:

The follow-up, "Huffing & Puffington with Cardboard Porn", also got some laughs:

My ulterior motive in promoting this humorous situation (a toll-free number that was printed on boxes to promote the recycling of corrugated has been taken over by a telephone-sex operation) was to bring more attention to the rather sudden lack of demand for recycled materials.
