Currently the API allows for apps to generate such comment spam easily. Myspace has a lot of work to do on the documentation and features of their Open Social-Custom Myspace API mashup. It has a lot of fleshing out to do.

The question is whether they will make the same mistakes Facebook made or will they learn from it. Something tells me that they are stupid enough to not learn from it, and launch the apps for the public prematurely.

we are shutting down this service. this was NOT related to Open Social in any way. please do not confuse the Open Social platform with the service
Notes:
* this service was not launched. it was not available through any link on RockYou.com

* users were informed that they would automatically match all their friends that took the quiz and send comments to their friends. there was no attempt to conceal this behavior. apologies to anyone for unexpected behavior

* automated comment posting is rampantly used by MySpace support sites and to our knowledge was first employed by a large slideshow company. (not us)

Myspace has a good spam defense now. I mean I have not got a spam message, friends request, comment for like over a month.

I for one hope they keep these sorts of shady practices up.

Our app (to be unveiled soon, and without the annoying beta tag) will feast on the distaste users have for these "apps" (features in my opinion) and their spammy ways.

"Press F4 and forward this to all your friends to see which one has a crush on you."

Facebook and Myspace will eventually be full of spam bots, the social networks really need to get a good spam defense set up.

1. Maintaining a professional nature on MySpace is pretty hard to do. No one is on MySpace trying to find a job.

2. People post comments on the friends comment section the most and I don't think anyone would mind it being there. Hell I have town of Michelle's posting links to their webcams after they joined me as a friend.

This is MySpace no LinkedIn. The kids won't mind at all.

Yea, I noted that in my story. What they're doing is still incredibly shady tho. By consent, I mean a checkbox that says "post a comment to all of my friends" or something like it. They offer a pull-down to ask you if you want to post a widget to your profile - which isn't spammy at all - so why not do the same for an action that posts something to all your friends?

Wait they told you that there going to post a comment. So thats what they did. Its not spam at all it tells all your friends that you did this and want them to go look at it. Its just a comment. I think its a great idea that they do this.
