Digg has been censoring for ages. Back when I first started using Digg, I registered the username "KevinRoseIsGay". It was quickly banned. I requested that they reinstate it, but they refused. I created a Revision 3 account by the same name, and it still exists to this day. Why? Because my Revision 3 account was a PAID account.

To say that people are not going to go to Digg.com again cause they didn't want to post something illegal is absurd. Yes, people posted that the key was available and should have left it at that. However these select few post an illegal key that is intellectual property and they are mad cause they removed an illegal piece of property. I say that Kevin Rose did the right thing by removing the stories. If you really wanted to get the key how hard would it be to get it?

I think the most likely scenario is that this will cause another huge surge in digg interest among non users, which will be good for the site, financially and otherwise.

As far as the digg culture becoming "mainstream" and losing credibility goes- does anyone really use digg because of it's credibility??? After the idiotic show a small chunk of users put on yesterday, I would say it can't hurt to replace some of those people with users that don't act like they're 12. There will still be a core of submitters that are real geeks. If what happened is enough to drive someone away from the site then this whole thing was a great way to filter out morons.

How about Reddit? It's been around for almost as long as Digg, any while the user base is much smaller, it could probably handle the load. Having said that I'm fairly sure the current Reddit audience won't appreciate an influx of Digg refuges.

My guess is that today's shenanigans will drive away the more mature users, further concentrating the immature users that Digg is known for. If that happens then Digg will become more mainstream, lose all remaining credibility and slowly die out.

Yes, I agree, even though I will push my piece of dirt pligg site as digg 2; just because I like to seize the moment as I just posted.

To be honest, without money, some engineers, and some developers real quick to ramp it up -- I couldn't scale it or keep up if everyone jumped on tonight.

Digg will let the users play, and sort out the body parts after this is all done. Nice job though on the artwork. :)
