Paying about $1 with DRM protection is not what most people want these days.

We need something like allofmp3.com ($0.10 songs, depending on format and bit rate) to get more ppl on the legal route (although we know piracy will forever live on) :D

Re: Illegal Music Downloading at an All Time High

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it illegal to upload music, not download it? It's distributing content that is illegal.

I don't think simply dropping the price will help. In people's minds, there is a world of difference between 20c and free. Also, there will always be some media not available through legal channels and this will always keep the pirate sites open.

Re: Illegal Music Downloading at an All Time High

I think the business model for the music industry are social networks. People are 5x more likely to purchase something on a friends recommendations. Things are moving away from static storefronts towards niche communities where people discover media through people who share their interests. In this environment, each person becomes a sales channel, and should be compensated if a recommendation they make to a friend ends up in a purchase...in so doing, you integrate the interests of both the industry and the user.

We're launching www.melinky.com New Years Day and this is the business model we're striving for (go to the site and sign up for the beta program!)

Re: Illegal Music Downloading at an All Time High

They should cut down prices to stop illegal music downloads. $.20 per track is fairy price.
