When will people learn that anything requiring a download is a non-starter, especially in the social networking realm...

Pubs can have an online register where people can mark their schedules and availability. Anyway a nice idea - innovative LBS :)

Mark, Secondlife is around 40MB download but it is so engaging that people don't care.

The same exact function is/was native in my old Nokia 3230. YOu set up this little myspace page with your likes/dislikes decide if you want yuor beacon on or not...I loved the idea, I never NOT Once fund another user.

    Wah wah wahhh.

    Is Troll Week still happening?

If I hear/read one more person use the expression "reach out" when they mean talk to or communicate with another person, I'll reach through my screen and throttle them.

On a slightly more related note, something similar to this has been around for ages via bluetooth. I remember 3 or 4 years ago having 15 minutes of fun in a pub stalking other bluetooth enabled phone users.

The back and forth between the physical world and the extensible space of the web is fascinating to me right now. I want to be able to walk into a bar I've never visited, and find a 2D bar code somewhere that links me to people's thoughts on the bar.

This is certainly another way to do it, I guess.

Interesting how the two things connect.

Ah yes, this is all sounding familiar to me now. iFob sounds just like Dodgeball.com. Dodgeball did the same thing in a handful of cities in the U.S., but Google acquired them a few years ago and that was the last we heard about it.

Google has been sitting on Dodgeball waiting for the right time to use the service. Their relatively recent purchase of Jaiku.com is the perfect way to re-introduce Dodgeball.

Look for this service coming soon for Jaiku users. I'm still partial to Twitter.

    Cheers,
    Dave
