I would suggest you to have a trial of Unlimited Online Backup from www.in2biz.in
  • Cucku Backup · 4 months ago
Also consider checking out Cucku Backup (http://www.cucku.com). It's a bit different - a peer-to-peer approach where you backup to a friend or family member instead of a datacenter. This is faster (you can seed the backup on an external hard drive and then just send new and changed files). It's also cheaper and greener because there's no datacenter to run. Cucku is free for unlimited storage to a single partner and cheap for multiple partners. I work for Cucku so I'm definitely biased but please check us out and let me know what you think.

Although your research is comprehensive, nonetheless, you left out one of the fastest growing remote managed service providers that specializes exclusively in digital-content backup and archival management. The name of the company is Secured Digital Storage LLC ("SDS").

SDS architected a Terabyte storage platform that surpasses most Fortune 1000 IT storage environments offering "Five 9s" realiability in highly secure and survivable fully redundent self-generating power, cooling, and OC192 connectivity infrastructure.

SDS alliance partners include EYP for datacenter design and commissioning; HP for IT platform; AT&T for connectivity; and GE for data-storage facility construction engineering.

Would you please add SDS to your list of data-storage companies.
  • nox · 2 years ago
I fail to see anywhere on the site you mentioned any way to make an account and login... let alone if it is free.

I think that kinda excludes it from the list.
  • glenneroo · 2 years ago
    spam alert!
Scouring google provides me with little info, not even a homepage to be found! The one useful link was provided by HP:
"SDS is a storage management service company offering "storage on demand" for enterprise, service provider, and government customers. The company mananges a network of Level 5 secure, electrically self-sufficient data storage "bunkers" housed in former munitions storage bunkers spread across the US."

Doesn't sound like something that's available to everyone of us with less than $100,000 to spare.

The homepage is a joke too:

To anyone that reads this blog: there is a clear winner out of all those choices for online storage. For me, the only choice is Carbonite. They give you UNLIMITED backup for only 50 dollars. I've been using Carbonite for a while now, and its been great. I've had no problems and its been an extremely valuable tool. I give it my highest recommendation.

Thank you so much for the list, however there is another file hosting service that defiantly needs to be added to it...

From BOXSTr to MediaMax, I have used so many storage sites, yet I always end up disappointed and leaving them because of various problems. (Among other things, the two aforementioned file hosting services each charged my credit card twice without my consent.)

Recently, I stumbled upon a file host, named Humyo... which is located in London, England. So far, it has been the best I've seen or experienced. It appears to be professionally operated and they tell you about the owners of their service. They even show their pictures! This really impressed me, along with the security measures they use for your files.

You get a generous 25GB for your videos, music, and photos, and 5 GB for documents... and it's FREE! You can also stream your files, without having to download them first. There are many great features with Humyo, so I highly recommend that you check it out...

Mozy for Mac has been a nightmare for me. I have a very high-speed DSL connection, a new MacBook Pro, and Leopard. I also used it on a Powerbook running Tiger.

My first tech support request, which came within a day of using it, went unresponded to for about 5 days. That was not the only time an inordinate delay for tech support occurred.

But the main problem was, the software just did NOT work! I signed up at the end of January, and here in early April, Mozy has not succeeded in backing up my 60 GB of data! I have had it running several times daily. The software kept quitting, or connecting but failing to actually upload anything. I exchanged email with multiple tech support people, and went through about 5 upgrades, each upgrade promising to fix the problem that was stopping me from uploading data.

I cancelled today after an upgrade to the most recent version failed to work at all, despite several uninstall/reinstall procedures.

IMHO, Mozy for Mac is not even reliable enough to qualify for a Beta test status. I do personally know ONE Mozy for Mac user for whom this actually seems to work. He is happy. But it seems possible from internet reviews that he is in the minority.

In response to my repeated attempts to problem-solve for Mozy, they extended my contract by 2 months, for free. But I found that the amount of time I was spending trying to get Mozy to work was not worth "free," even.

Good luck to Mozy, and I hope they get their sluggish technical support times improved, and that someday they have a product worthy of marketing to the Mac community. We Mac users expect better.

Listen up Xdrive Consumers....! XDMOlson is going to hook you all up with the easiest way to transfer your Xdrive digital assets to another provider.

I know there are a lot of other providers out there, check out my previous post about the Ultimate Review List of Best Free Online Storage and Backup Application Services...

    http://tomuse.com/ultimate-review-list-of-best-...

However XDMOlson is going to recommend selecting ElephantDrive for current Xdrive consumers. They have worked out an agreement with Xdrive to make transferring those digital assets over as easy as possible.

Do you have digital assets stored in either an Legacy Xdrive account or an AOL Xdrive account? Time is running out to get those assets....AOL is shutting down Xdrive on 12JAN2009....Hurry....!

Got assets stored in your Xdrive account? I recommend choosing ElephantDrive and to make transferring those digital assets over as easy as possible just click the link http://www.elephantdrive.com/m/ct.aspx?ici=267 ...this is the Xdrive to ElephantDrive migration page.

Xdrive and ElephantDrive have worked out a process to help account holders make the transition as easy as possible especially if you don't have the time to babysit the zipping process, one of mine took over 8 hours.

ElephantDrive uses the Open Xdrive API to access your account and perform the zipping process for you. Once your accounts data is zipped up a new ElephantDrive account will be created containing your assets.

There are several other online storage competitors out there, some offering Free accounts ranging in many quotas and paid subscriptions that will cover not only individual consumers needs but SMB companies needs and subscriptions that will cover large companies enterprise needs.

    Here's one list I recommend checking out;

It is interesting to note that many of the service providers are already gone; With today's business environment, it is expected 80% of online storage or online backup companies cannot survive because they never had a profit model other than offering cheaper or even free service!

A company in such a crowded market space must be able to really compete, but not just by offering cheaper / free service. VOSI.biz is a different company, we focus on product quality and service quality, we are keen to develop better products, more features than any of our competitors. We target premium users and business users who are more willing to pay for our services. We create value and save money for our customers.

The biggest solution out there is missed off. Connected from Iron Mountain has 3+ million paying users - so forget all those that give it away and then count them as real customers. Users of Connected include: HP, Logica, Google, Amazon, PwC, Hilton, Boeing...

There's a huge difference between simple areas to store data and business grade online backup. The former is a 'disk in the sky' - which has some value. The latter needs to account for multiple versions, long-term archiving, open file/database backup e.g. Exchange or SQL, encryption, bulk restore, etc.

Many of the free services are also based out of the USA. Nothing wrong with that as such, but European business users needs to take care of EU data protection regulations - that are only partially covered by the Safe Habor Protocols. They also need to consider how they will get bulk data back in a Disaster Recovery situation. And this brings me onto support...

Backup Direct (www.backupdirect.net) supports 2000 businesses in the UK with enterprise-class online backup – including using the Connected technology. What our customers want is secure storage of course. But more importantly, they want support. If we split out the storage element, then we could drop the price per GB to next to nothing. But somehow the experts in the office that know how to recover Exchange or Quickbooks, etc - need to be paid for.

Cheap backup is like cheap bin liners (garbage liners) - you will only regret using them when the contents of last night's dinner party and the malodorous mess are scattered over the floor and you are on your knees trying to clean up with your wife screaming ‘I told you so…’

    Salut!
I used some of the above - on the backup side I could not find ONE friendly service (try Mozy or Carbonite when you have 500k+ files and over 700GB of data). Ended up buying space from rsync.net and running my own backups. Advised if you are good with linux.
On file hosting, forget rapidshare or the heavy ad-sponsored services. They have too many limitations. I use quicksharing.com (fast) and ravishare.com (multi-upload without registration and integration with Twitter). Will they be reliable? Who care, they are free...
