    I agree with Web 2.0 skeptic... I understand that its difficult in general to obtain metrics on advertising efficiency and effectiveness, but is there any way to gauge what sort of publicity boost one can receive from a widget -- or, for the new Bebo/widget groups, what the business model and long-term sustainability is?

    Ben, I think that there are definitely going to be ways to determine the effect associated with content syndication. At Clearspring, we are working with folks like the Colts to understand what the right metrics are to quantify that efficacy. Clearly it is a tough problem, but analytics such as views, locations, click through, and viral hub points can really help. Lots to do in this area, but my guess is that some meat and potatoes solutions can start to shed some light on things.
