Mashable - The Social Media Guide: 2008/08/13/firefox-3-social-surfing-tools/

Useful. Helpful. And short. That's my kind of self-help article. Well done.

I've been using Flock, which is built on Firefox 3, for 6+ months now and if you're not into managing extensions and toolbars Flock has more than 75% of these features already built in and they iterate rather quickly to catch up to trends...flock is really one of the handful of technologies that have changed how i use the interwebs on a daily basis...can't say enough good things about it!

As well Josh - am a HUGE fan of FLOCK!

    FLOCK ON!

Josh, I agree with you regarding the features in flock... I used it for quite some time now (around 8 or more months) and I realized that it crashes a lot and hogs up lots of system resources. Not sure if everyone has the same problem though... and it's not firefox 3s problem as I've been using that for quite a while with no problems what so ever!

    You left out social browse.
  • J Thompson · 1 year ago
I found Socialbrowse from a Mashable article so I'm surprised it was left out here. I've been using it for a few weeks now and am totally hooked. I find it's easier than most of the tools on this list.

What about the official Digg Firefox extension that was just released? It's keeping me much more connected than before, and I'm digging more and more upcoming stories. It recommends stories based on what your friends digg and using the recommendation engine.

I have been using flock too for quite some time now and love it!

Missed one: right-click menu for Facebook.

Socialbrowse was not included because it is still invite only. Would be a quick way to frustrate people by including it and then they can't score an invite.
  • River · 1 year ago
On that note, does anyone have any invites to share for Socialbrowse?
  • evano · 1 year ago
Ooh. Ooh. Me too! Anyone have a Socialbrowse invite? :)
  • Mark · 1 year ago
@River - Yep, I've got one. Just let me know what address to send it to.

Flock 2.0 can use the additional Apps..

I like Yoono but it faults up at times.

Still Stumble toolbar is incredibly useful... Just love it with Flock 2.0.

Just one thing 2.0 is beta version so make sure u download instead of waiting 4 update from older versions.

I hereby declare Yoono as The One To Watch
(no I dont work for them)
If you have some reason why you can't use Flock, then Yoono can get you most of that kind of joy.
As Flock is an aggregator of sorts, I should mention Secondbrain http://www.secondbrain.com/ and Ziki http://www.ziki.com/ which can do Netvibes-style mashups.
Also the plugin BlueOrganizer can tap in to a variety of social web services.
What about GroovyNotes, Yaplet, Chatsum and Gabbly? Isn't chatting social?
Finally Cluztr and Downfly are semi-social, as they let friends follow your clickstream or bookmarks.

    Sean, have you tried Minggl?

    +1 For Flock 2
    http://www.flock.com/beta/download/

It has about almost all of the functionality listed in the extensions above with a smaller memory footprint and much more streamlined interface since it is built into the browser.

Also, Mysocial247 is another alternative to Yoono as a social sidebar. It just seems less cluttered to me.

You could just use Flock instead of installing 15 addons. I am a flock whore now, using 2.0 beta currently, and I can't wait to see the future. It's hard to imagine Webkit not adapting some of those features in the near future. If they did it would be fast too -- flock's only flaw is the speed hit with all the simultaneous networking going on.

Please define in the description that this extension also STOPS the preloading of video..So you still have to do the play+pause dance to load while you browse..
