Great. Yahoo! really needs to catch up in the API world and be more open with their stuff. Yahoo! is very robust (and I'd especially like a Finance API) and developers will love this.
In fact, Yahoo! has had one of the richest API communities of all the big Internet companies for years now. I'm not sure what you makes you think they're playing catch up... (Yeah, Google Maps is more popular than Yahoo's maps API, but Yahoo!'s Flickr and YUI APIs are *very* popular...).
Oh, and it's search API is more popular than Google's, at least according to the scorecard linked above.
