Great post. I had actually been looking into signing up for Tip'd but have been too lazy. Thanks for giving me that extra push!

It's it more fun when YOU give the shout-out? ;-) Thanks for the link!

Of course, what I meant to say was "Isn't it more fun..." Think I might go back to English school one of these days... :-)

Bookmarklets are what make it possible for me to use Chrome as my primary browser-- the Delicious ones, one that subscribes to the current page's feed in Google Reader, one to share the current page in Google Reader, bit.ly, and Blog This (for Blogger).

Unrelated note: I'm eager to see Chrome launch for the Mac. I probably wouldn't use it as my primary browser, since I really like what Firefox 3 does for me, but it'll be nice to have that option when it comes (sometime in 2009)

Also take a look at http://imgfave.com, an image bookmarking site that uses a bookmarklet.

    Hi Paul,
I will second David. The diigolet (http://www.diigo.com/tools/diigolet) can help you highlight and clipping the web.

    Paul,

Thanks for including zhiing on this post!

Last week we released a zhiing browser add-on for Internet Explorer that's really sweet. Basically all addresses in the browser window get populated with a little zhiing ring icon once installed. Click on the icon and a utility window opens with the address. Type in the mobile number you want to send it to, yours or someone else's, and away you go...map and message sent directly to the phone.

We're headed up to Cupertino tomorrow and I sent zhiings to myself today so now I've got all the places with dynamic maps stored in zhiing on my phone for tomorrow's meeting places.

Thanks again for the interest in zhiing!

    Grant

Bookmarklets are great and I've used them for years (long before there were browser add-ons) but what exactly is the problem with restarting your browser? Takes me 5 seconds and I get FF back with tabs etc exactly as they were. There is a place for both. I just use the most appropriate/efficient/easiest.
  • Paul Glazowski · 1 year ago
If you're a "power user," you're probably browsing with plenty of tabs open and keeping things just how you like them to be. Bookmarklets are pretty much the next best option to plugins, then. You can also say that bookmarkets have become so featureful that they can duplicate plugins in many ways. Hence the title for this post.

thanx for sharing.. i definitely like the delicious add-on (makes it so much easier to tag pages!), but the zhiing add-on looks cool too for sending yourself places to get to later.
