I find that thanks to social media it's easier to find out if the person you're dating is a liar, since their personal exploits are often well-documented via photos, messages and videos. Then again, that means social media is making me more paranoid and slower to trust people, which is a definite downside.

My social media life and my dating life are integrally related. I'm lucky that my boyfriend is deeply entrenched in the blogging world so he gets it and is okay with me blogging about him.

But I think we're the exception, not the rule.

Back in my single days, I found the social networks (MySpace, etc) to be pretty poor places to find dates and love. Usually, there's people on there collecting "friends" and networking with as many as possible, not the best environment for intimacy (if you're looking for that).

My 13-year-old daughter was recently dumped via text message. Surprisingly (to me) the method was less concerning to her than the timing - three days before her birthday.
