I know everyone loves talking about being a Digg-killer (and most aren't). But I checked this site out and it has more of a chance to cross over to the mainstream than any of the other social news sites I've seen. They need to grow quickly, but if they do, these guys have a fighting chance to take over a big (but crowded) market.

I’m not surprised that Newscred is getting press like this- Newscred's mission of tracking the credibility of our main stream news sources, blogs, and authors is an ambitious one and if executed well it has huge potential to shake up the news media scene and change the news reading experience- So it’s only natural that the world is starting to take notice!! I for one don't think mainstream news sources should get more wieght than blogs, leave it to the user to decide what's credible and what's not!Should they profile user's for age, education, political views, etc? Maybe- at least to get a better idea of the conditioning behind the voting. Eager to see how long it takes them to build good data!

Also check out NewsTrust.net - where I am a contributing editor. We've been in the game for a bit now and are trying to tackle the same issue as newscred: It's a nonprofit trying to figure out how a community can rank the news not based on popularity but on quality.
