I guess Pete got it wrong too since he writes "which the founders tell us is a brand new social network for models." I still don't understand from your less than coherent response what it is you are trying to do but best of luck to your company. You might want to come up with a one or two sentence description that explains what your site is for and change your name so that it doesn't reference models. Difficult to win over users if they don't have a solid idea of what you are.

Re: VideoModelPics – MySpace for Hot Models

we our not confused, "VideoModelPics and bills itself as a modeling site. " we have not billed our site as a modelling site, to simply one of things that we do is bring aspects of standard profile sites, and bring social networking elements, with students, we mean students, performing arts students, college students, as a way of meeting different and interesting people, you do not have to be in television or films to have friends in that industry, as many people are interested in different areas, to think that our site only caters for one type of user is very narrow minded and shows, your limited scope of the term social networking, with social networking branching out into videos, music, books, and acting to say that a social network is only for certain users is not what social networking today is about, the days of simple dating sites are changing.

Re: VideoModelPics – MySpace for Hot Models

Susan...I'm not saying that you shouldn't enter the market but I just don't see any features or strategy that differentiate you in any significant way from sites like OMP, and there are a lot of them. That's going to make it a lot more difficult than if you had something really innovative or had some existing large audience you could tap into (like MySpace's parent company did).

Now you're also saying that you cater to students, non models, etc. Your site is named VideoModelPics and bills itself as a modeling site. If you're saying that you're catering to everybody, now you have a really confusing and nebulous service that isn't really well-defined. Just what are you trying to do and who are you trying to target?

The sites that came in after Friendster not only took advantage of Friendster's inability to scale, but they had a very clear value proposition to a targeted market and/or were able to execute a strategy that got them a major audience. Outside of a handful of success stories, most social networks have not done that at a very big level so any startup that says "Well MySpace and Bebo did it" and can't explain what they're doing to succeed receives skepticism from me. Just my opinion.

Re: VideoModelPics – MySpace for Hot Models

Jordan Michaels
We are not trying to say that what OneModelPlace.com is wrong or that there approach is not profitable, however what we are saying is that videomodelpics, offers a range of features, just in the similar way that tagworld, bebo friendster are social networking sites, we also cater for students, and non models alike, your arguement that because a company has been in a market that means that entering to the market is hardly possible, would mean that friendster would be the only social networking site.

Re: VideoModelPics – MySpace for Hot Models

And then there's SoloModels.com

Re: VideoModelPics – MySpace for Hot Models

Well you can say what you will about OneModelPlace, but they have 130,000+ models and they're in the top 3000 websites according to Alexa. They make a ton of money, sponsor events, etc. etc. My gilfriend is a photographer and has done a ton of business through them. The idea that "we're free" gives you a huge competitive edge is only true if people haven't been paying for another service for a long time and that service actually delivers. OMP has critical mass, lots of cash and those make it tough for anybody trying to do something they've been doing for years.

Pete: it's not all Flash. Just the homepage.

Re: VideoModelPics – MySpace for Hot Models

I work with Video Model Pics, and unlike OneModelPlace.com, VideoModelPics.com does not charge for their service VideoModelPics.com is free, we offer a place not just for models, but for people wishing to meet new and interesting people, fully test all the features and see what VideoModelPics.com has to offer

Re: VideoModelPics – MySpace for Hot Models

Onemodelplace is 100% Flash? It is hugely successful. I don't think VideoModelPics has a chance against OneModelPlace or some of the other similar sites. It's like a new art social network going up against DeviantArt. Why bother unless you're doing something really innovative?
