    > Services like Commission Junction are great for small and mid-size publishers that don’t have the resources to recruit their own affiliates – a problem that eBay doesn’t have.

Just a couple clarifications for you. The term "publisher" is synonymous with "affiliate" - eBay is an "advertiser" in the world of affiliate marketing.

Also, your point doesn't hold water. eBay has been on CJ since 2001. I think a case could be made that eBay has long been a household name and would have left many years ago if using an affiliate network were only about recruiting affiliates.

Additionally, the Commission Junction roster is packed with companies that would not be considered merely "small and mid-size", such as Apple, BestBuy, Dell, HP and Staples.

Ah, in that case I did mean to say "advertiser" and not "publisher" - fixed. My point was that top traffic sites like eBay don't need a service like Commission Junction to attract affiliates.

Wow, certainly a huge loss for CJ. This was a strategic level account there with dedicated account resources. I would think it was more cost effective to manage in-house, but I agree why now and not sooner?

Just another example of companies pulling this in-house. IF the staff is qualified, close to qualified, or trainable, it often makes better financial sense. Also, now that there are more and more people that have been in the industry for more than a year, and the industry's maturing, I see this happening more often.

Does anybody know a good affiliate program for Home loans, personal loans, car loans and other financial affiliates, thank you

A website that rocks harder than ebay, check out BidMogul.com!

however this also worries me because eBay is well famous for ignoring their affiliates and having the middleman of CJ in between was the only was that issues could get resolved.

I hope with the moving in-house that eBay reexamines this blanket policy and hires a Filipino support center or two to actually pay attention to and support and respond to their affiliates.

Finally. We (PowerReviews.com) use Ebay for our consumer site http://www.buzzillions.com when our clients are out of stock for a product. This will make the relationship a lot easier (and probably more profitable).

Just admit it Adam; you wouldn't know affiliate marketing if it hit you in the head :-)
