Mashable - The Social Media Guide: 2007/05/08/sitemeter/

Ah - I was wondering why my site was timing out while trying to fetch their javascript before...Must have had to do with the relaunch (or soon to be relaunch judging from the hideous green tables still on sitemeter.com ;)

Yeah, I noticed it taking ages to load on Mashable too. The new stats interface (from what I saw of it) seems to be a mix of improved design elements and those ugly old tables. So, the ugliness may not go away completely.

Well, they've been around forever with aesthetics never being their strong suit. I think redesign was more to 'fit in' with the bubbly new sites than anything else. Do you use the pro version by any chance, Pete?

Nah, I use the free one. With stats, free and fast-loading are what people want, hence sitemeter did pretty well.

Thank god. The layout, style, color scheme of it before was utterly nauseating. ;)

So why does my Sitemeter account still look crappy and old? Frankly, I don't really give a damn how it looks, but after reading this report I keep checking Sitemeter and it looks exactly the same.
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
Heh. Yeah, looks like they've reverted.

I notice you use both Google Analytics and Sitemeter, but given:

    &
    Why is this:
"Despite being used by many of the top blogs (including Mashable)"

Do your numbers always match up?
  • Peter · 2 years ago
Personally, I hate the new version. With the old one you could look at the stats on other people's blogs and see where their traffic was coming from. Now that feature is gone.

I don't care what it looks like, it worked far better before.

You still can, depending on how their account is set up. There was a brief period during the switchover when public stats didn't seem to work...maybe you tried it during that time?
