    Rather than wait for OpenID to add sites, I've gone with a password manager from Lastpass.com. It syncs all my passwords across browsers and gives me a secure, single-sign on experience with all my passwords.

    Also take a look at Demand OpenID (http://demand.openid.net) -- a site for publicly declaring your desire for OpenID support at your favorite sites! There's a simple bookmarklet that makes it easy to add the worst (best?) offenders!

    Might as well get a National ID or RFID chip and throw away your driver's license and forget your fingerprints

    Open ID is a scam to get people used to using one i.d., sorry, but it is

    @Adam
    Not a scam, lol. It was indeed designed to get people to use one ID though so you're half right. Hey, you're not alone in your skepticism. Security is the primary concern for this technology which is the main thing they work on all the time. OpenID 2.0 made great strides in this respect but they know there's still a long way to go in regards to strengthening security and even making the process even easier to use and quicker. ClickPass does a fantastic job with the process so check them out to see what the future could be for OpenID when it comes to simplicity.

    This is exciting technology and part of the future that's here today. Yes, it's still an infant with lots of growing pains ahead but I feel that it will be well worth it for us all.

    I absolutely love OpenID. I use it for most of the sites I visit on a regular basis. But my big concern is there has been no ONE OpenID Provider that has come out in the lead to really market this to the public. Yes there is the actual org behind it, but I think that basic users can easily get confused at all the different sites that can provide them with an OpenID, as well as the fact that they may already have one and didn't know it.

    Its definitely all about having a centralized place to contain all of your profiles, but when we can say to a user that their blogger profile and their flickr profile are both their OpenID's, I can see that becoming extremely confusing and leaving them to wonder, "well which one should I be using or should I be using a provider instead?"

    Whoever can answer this question and put a succinct marketing campaign behind it is going to come out to be the major propoent in the eyes of the public.

    Nah mean?

    Also elgg V1 (an open source social network platform) supports OpenID as client and server. So you can deploy your social net with OpenID support and then become a provider as well.

    You may also included twitterfeed.com which provides good service for bloggers to integrate twitter.

    Here is a simple OpenID php server to deploy on your webhost:

    Instructions are quite easy, and code are open to customization.

    Since projects like MediaWiki (Wikipedia software) have extensions to add OpenID support, other sites like DocForge can easily add OpenID with no programming needed.

    I work for Vidoop, we run an OpenID provider (mentioned above) which has an integrated password manager as well. Would be interested in hearing how people think it compares to other password management solutions out there.

    Surprised that Springnote is not in it.

    You know of course that OpenID still really bites, right? Here's what happens 9/10 times, you create an account with an OpenID, then need to authenticate to it from some other service that doesn't have the option of using open id as an auth method. Then you try to use username/password, but you don't have one because you used an openid for your account. So you can't auth, no soup for you. Username / Password is still the best way to go.
