    Hey there,

It is NOT "Google's" Earth Hour!!

http://www13.earthhourus.org an event created by the World Wildlife Fund.

There's enough Google worship going on. Please.
If Google steals the show and people refer to it as their Earth Hour, I'll spit!

    It's freaking preposterous!

Google told that making Google homepage black will not help in saving energy(ref: http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2007/08/is-black...), then what's the point in making Google page black for Earth Hour in US ? They probably do something different to show their passion ; )

To the people complaining about why Google decided to make the site black - it's called symbolism, look it up

So, Mark, will Mashable turn off the lights tonight during MashMeetLA?
  • Javacrazy · 1 year ago
Google should turn off all of their servers for ONE hour! That's saving energy!

I personally like the new black look. It's easy on the eyes. And yes, changing the site to a black background doesn't save energy, it's to symbolize Earth Hour. A dark background, hence darkness of the hour that we shut off the lights. Make sense?

That looks like hell. At least they could've changed border colors for text-boxes and buttons. It would save energy on CRTs, which not too many people use these days. Would have been better to change the logo instead...

Maybe GOOG went down because of black bg.

All "black google" sites dont actually save that much in power. But if you still want to do it, use www.pifty.com At least they give some of their earnings to a real company who is actually doing something good for the enviornment.

Thanks for promoting Earth Hour! Another way you can recruit people to the cause is by creating a Earth Hour group on Commit21.com. Simply create a group about one action that you will commit to do for Earth Hour and recruit your friends, family, and co-workers to get involved in that action as well. When it comes to climate change, simple actions can make huge differences and Commit21 leverages social media to influence networks of friends, family, and co-workers. Check it out at www.commit21.com
