Well, Kristen, you wrote about this 5 months ago, and the site still hasn't gone anywhere. I guess that validates your arguments.

I just wrote my review, Why Zooped Sucks, and wasn't nearly as nice as you were.

There's going to be a huge thinning of the herd in the next year or two, and this is a calf limping in the back of the group...

I must say I'm very impressed. Zooped is clearly targetting not only every day social users but also businesses of all sizes. Myspace is warding off all advertisers unless they pay myspace...zooped is allowing businesses to advertise and the users can reject the businesses ads. I like it.

My statement wasn't directly related to this company but to the tone of the posts of this site recently.
I guess my take is that Facebook was "just another" Myspace when it first started. Wasn't much difference in the feature set except it was exclusive to college students. I know there are alot of sites that are clones from a feature perspective but there may be some differentiation in the business strategy. It would be nice to see that. Plus, I'd like to read an actual usage review once in a while not just a dismissive blurb.

perfect timing for zooped with myspace getting destroyed with spam and blocking photobucket. Now if zooped had a way to convert myspace profiles to zooped. I should email them and charge for my idea.

There must be some bigger plan behind this, but for the moment, "clone" is a nice way of putting it. Rip-off would be a more apt description.

We are well into the era of niche social networks. New networks should be launched for a target, or if it is for a broad audience, the offering must be different in some way.

I do like Mashable's frequency of posting, that's why I check back 3 times a day. But, I must say, I'm surprised sometimes at the stuff that gets airtime.

John, I think the point of the article was that there was no differentiating factors, hence the clone title.

Can we get a review without the word "clone" referenced? This product may not be going anywhere but every second startup reviewed by this site is claimed to be a "clone" or "just another". How about providing an actual critique or focusing on the differentiating aspects? Because this site is quickly becoming a "clone of" or "just another" Techcrunch.

Jack you are sadly mistaken, Zooped is nothing like buddy zone I originally was under the same assumption till I signed up and tested the site out. Zooped.com is the real deal.

Its true there are hundreds of these startups using off the shelf scripts which is not a problem,as long as its open source and you can tweek it to look unique and other features why would you spend hundreds of thousands developing a new script for it to get ripped a few weeks later from the east.
I think the issue now if your going to start one up it must be a niche with very good viral marketing techniques.

This site uses Vastal.com's Buddy Zone script........ which is a very very buggy script and can be purchased for $350 :P
