It's all about Digg.

Re: Newspapers: Evolve or Die (AP’s CEO Agrees)

From preliminary conversations, at least some small papers like the possibility of using dynamic print to produce customized papers for each recipient (articles and ads). Once they see the advantages of that, the web becomes obvious. It's all about delivering the most useful info in the preferred way for each recipient (whether web or print).

While they have unique local sources and content for now, that advantage won't last long. The transition will happen, whether or not they're a part of it.

Re: Newspapers: Evolve or Die (AP’s CEO Agrees)

duncan :P

Re: Newspapers: Evolve or Die (AP’s CEO Agrees)

now, THIS is how you write blog pots.

Pete, give this guy a raise or something..

fire ducan... i mean stan to justify it.

Re: Newspapers: Evolve or Die (AP’s CEO Agrees)

Mark -

I have commented a number of times on the "evolve or die" theme, mainly because I like using death as an ultimatum (see profile picture). In an ironic twist, newspapers often report on emerging trends which are leading to their demise. The emphasis on "reporting" is a reacitonary environment, but for some reason has morphed into a practice incapable of multitask. With their feel for trends and cultural importance, newspaper should have been able to dominate the web (the NY Times continues to hold its own, but is one of the few positive examples).

Andy

Re: Newspapers: Evolve or Die (AP’s CEO Agrees)

This is soooooooo true. I see it with our small town newspaper, which is actually owned by USA Today, but they are struggling to figure out where their market share is ... great article.
