Just wanted to let you know that although I am based in the UK, I can access Pandora fine. I don;t know why - My IP address is a standard one, from a company with their servers based in London.
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
Yup, the UK is said to be the exception (even though the site itself says US only). More here:

<b>ACIDplanet.com has been around since 1999.
    http://www.acidplanet.com

ACIDplanet.com is the Internet's premier site for music, video and unique artists. It's home to a growing online community of many exciting, individual digital musicians and videographers.

At ACIDplanet.com you create and upload your own music, videos and podcasts for the world to experience. Or listen to music created by others, and check out the most popular videos. Enter contests where you remix music by major artists and score your own music videos.

It's all about the music, the video, the artists and the community, all the time.

We have <a href="http://www.acidplanet.com/contests" title="ACIDplanet.com Remix Contests" rel="nofollow">remix contests each week from a variety of bands.

In the past, our members have remixed Madonna, Depeche Mode, Lenny Kravitz, William Shatner and David Bowie. Currently, our members are remixing Simply Red, Karmacoda, and NYCO.

You don't need ACID® software, to join in the activities at ACIDplanet.com. But if you need software to get started, we've made it easy for you, with ACID XPress, our free ten-track mixing and composing application. And we provide plenty of free content; new "loops" (sound samples optimized for use in music software) and complete ACID projects are available weekly on our 8packs page. Use these loops in a remix or an original song, and share it with the community.

Please come check http://www.acidplanet.com out, set up a free profile and share your music with us.

Acidplanet is not a premier site for music its a premiere site for advertising. Last.fm is much better. Back in the early days AP was quite ok and
I was active there. Now its all about mash and blog and all that fkn shit and hardly anything interesting musically and then u put a spin on remixes. I dont five fk for remixes, its bollox, show me a good article on mastering or a good royalty scheme. Fkn bollox

    Hey,

You seem to have missed out both The Hype Machine and The Filter.

I think that both Simplify Media and Streampad are also good music services worth keeping an eye on

While you didn't really have a section for media players, I think Songbird deserves a mention.

Your research is obviously somewhat lacking because you didn't include iacmusic.com which is far better and has more traffic than numerous sites you've listed here. Maybe you're attracted to cookie-cutter style sites?

Alright, this is a great list, but I mainly needed something that could host and stream music. So I went through that section--

I wouldn't recommend Maestro to anyone I know. For one, the interface is SLOW. Very slow. And I mean this--several times, I had to refresh the page, and since it is AJAX, had to redo everything I previously did. Although the site says "limited invitations, we'll invite you in the next few months" I got my invite instantaneously. Did you even test Maestro out?

Mainly, that was the only problem I have. It's a great list, save for a few minor errors!

What about the incredible MusicBrainz - a massive growing community database of ~500k albums 320k artists with track listings which can correct/add tags to your mp3 collections.

Seriously people, you can go to all of these bells and whistle sites that are amazingly automated and the results are and always will be the same. They will get advertising money and give none to speak of back to the musicians for their efforts and content for which people go there for in the first place. They stick you up on a profile which gets lost and buried and does the artist no real promotional effort. Jamacast.com is a site that once established with a rich user base and premium user account base which only cost's $9 for a year membership will actually give back a 25% advertising revenue to it's Premium Musician User. It takes people and memberships to achieve this so come over and support our Premium User Musicians today and lets fight the big label industries in a new way.

Hi, everyone. I think a list like this provides two things. First it helps build higher ranking on search engines if done correctly. Secondly it helps people like you become familiar with sites that are in your interest. I am sure there are affiliation reasons in some cases too. I find it ironic though as to how many posts here include links to other sites that are not mentioned on the main listing. I have a music site that is growing at a steady rate for little over a year now but my site has not been mentioned here. I guess it's time I put up a list of my own on my site as well. I will however not list any sites that are owned or controlled by the RIAA and it's affiliates. My site is for helping the independent musician and not to help line the pockets of the rich monopolistic controllers of the music industry. Hum maybe that is why my site was not listed here perhaps? just wondering, if I am wrong about this I apologize in advance, let me know.

    Groove On!!!
