Another wise move, would be to look at partnering with Roku. This could be their workaround for failing to get a program out that would work on most living room media center systems before.

You're right - content is king, and they could step it up in this regard yet, but it's not going to be an easy task. Honestly, I'd suggest finding *some* undiscovered or even headline talent from the web to declare Joost their official home for their content just to get the ball rolling on community.

Much of the content they currently host can be found elsewhere, and that's not going to drive eyeballs to the site.

I hafta admit that I've had a soft spot for Joost, and I've given them a whole lot more chances than I would have for any other video portal. I kept hoping that they'd figure out the ways they needed to improve the standalone client to make it useful and attractive.

My belief in them has gone way down since the decision to go portal. There are just way too many of those guys out there trying what they're trying, and as content aggregators (not content originators), it's going to be very difficult for them to establish their brand as a destination.

Their newly added social functions might help in establishing some sense of community there so I'll be keeping an eye on them, but to me in killing their standalone software side and not utilizing it in the ways i mentioned in the article, they've squandered an amazing opportunity.

Joost is so freaking week. I keep trying to give them another chance, but every time I visit the site I leave disappointed.

They are making me register to just watch a video. Hulu doesn't make me do that.

Let's see. The guy who runs Hulu came from Amazon. The guy who runs Joost ran Cisco. Who understands what consumers expect from a consumer internet site?

Joosts Next big move is going to have to be on devices that are connected to the TV the move to Flash and standards based streaming is a move in that direction .

Joost is well positioned to make that move being an independent company and HULU is going to struggle with its owners NBC and FOX becuse they have long term contracts and relationships with the Cable and Satellite companies that don't want to see the market for DVRs and scheduled TV programing caniballsed

Joost is a poor clone of Hulu. Bad idea, guys. Either sign with some significant distributors and get some real content, or find something else to do on the web.
