Impressive growth. Google should have bought it.
  • Guillaume · 11 months ago
Impressive, but for once I would like to be impressed by a technical feature:
a working chat; a customizable platform that would enable anyone to create its
own social network like Ning; etc.

Apparently they already have five million users in Italy, which means approx 9% of the entire population...

"which include catching up with MySpace and increasing advertising profits"

    What profits are those?

    Hi Stan,

Thanks for the wonderful piece of news. That is an awesome growth of rate.
Facebook has grown impressively here in India, while Orkut, former number 1 has
    fallen down considerably.

    Best Wishes,
    Shinil.

Anyone counting the number of those who are actively not checking fb or may
    even have unsubscribed? Count one.

pics. Unfortunately i know people who think facebook actually is the internet...
  • Rod · 11 months ago
That's alot of people....I am pretty sure it will not only catch up with MySpace, it will surpass them and do more than that....

Sorry to disagree, but Facebook is one of the most poorly run sites I have come across. Except for bored college kids recruiting their friends to play mobwars, nothing is happening there. I created an account a year ago, and the second I tried to buy advertising there at facebook they banned my account. So I followed their directions to the letter and created a new account. As promised, they transferred all my info over. 7 days later they banned the new account, and changed the owner of my blog page to my old account. I'm not sure who is in charge there, the interns who review accounts or the Visa Business Network. Either way I am now trying my third go around with these idiots. I think 10 is the magic number. If I can get someone to transfer my account details 10 times, I have generated enough work for that customer service rep to keep their job.

I wonder if what you're experiencing is the reason why they have so many users...maybe they purposely ban accounts so users have to create a new account, and they count both accounts in their total user count..I wouldn't doubt it -- The company will only be considered to be worth anything if their numbers keep increasing, if their numbers flatline then their valuation will shrink to nothing. Theres definetly something fishy about the way the site is run, all the personal identifiable data they're aggregating and using to be able to select which advertisements are displayed to users doesn't sit well with me, and all the data that they collect can never be deleted -- It's their account, not yours, you can't take it with you when you leave, you're info is forever theirs and that's a scary idea.

How many users does Myspace have and how long will it take for Facebook to overtake them assuming that they both continue to grow at their present rates.
  • meznor · 11 months ago
"Besides the obvious benefits of such growth, which include catching up with MySpace and increasing advertising profits, Facebook will also have to deal with scaling problems; some of their features (Chat and Live Feed, for example) simply aren’t working very well, and users are beginning to notice."

Dear God, let's hope so. I'm getting fed up with the bugginess.

The growth of Facebook is great. There cannot be any other website on the planet with a growth rate like Facebook. They surely will begin to make tons of money in the near future. But, right now their goal is to grow... not profit. The profit will come.

new members joining facebook will find it like heaven. They will be impressed
and think they found jewel. They try to get in touch with old friends. Soon
like me, they get bored and as usual cant be bothered to keep in touch with old
friends again. I really think facebook is a fad and is not something that will
last long. all the best to mr zukerberg to maintain his business. what business
    by the way?
