WHEN WILL MASHABLE SUPPORT OPENID?
Seems to me that your site is ideal for OpenID. I for one would probably use the site for more than just posting the odd comment (which I can do without signing up).
It's a little sad, but true that many people will become interested simply b/c they see Y! attached to it, or start to realize that they can use their Y! ID for other logins... and go "Hey, what's this all about?"
Kind of like going to see a headliner and discovering that the opening band you've never heard of actually kicks ass.
Hmmm.. now that I think about it, actually it's nothing like that.
Need more coffee.
We are happy to welcome Yahoo users to the party!

So dataportability looks like it's relying on the ability of openID to ensure a unique (yet easily transferable) identity which then helps users trust the data being shared among different parties.
That's way oversimplifying, but the way I view it, openID is a foundation piece of dataportability, as a concept.
Please correct me if I'm mistaken though.
the question is whether it will become a standard de facto for authentication.
I think that we and most site owners would like to have the ability to have general information about the user , such as : name, image, age, email etc. The user will be able to define which profile info are accessible to other sites.
