My prediction is that youtube will become heavily policed and there won't be many copyrighted videos anymore; however, I think that once this happens everybody will start migrating to dailymotion and other sites which are like youtube and all of the copyrighted materials will be posted there instead. Youtube will fall out of favor.

this lawsuit should be voted by the public instead of whoever's lawyer is better. Obviously Viacom is pouting bc they can't make money of us public as much now and yes their real players are cr*p. i'm with youtube. mtv sucks anyway, their internet system is slow and freezes often so viacom should back off.

I think this is taking it a little too far. Most, if not ALL of the "illegally" downloaded music videos I've watched on youtube, I buy the CD because of it. It is a VERY good way to promote movies, artists, and other such things.

Why would they sue? They just want to make money off a company thats clearly ahead in the game.

It's strange so many of you can't understand simple reality.

Viacom OWNS these shows, videos, music, movies and if they choose to sell them to you then that's their right.

If they choose to stick them in a box and bury them, that is there right also.

You as a user of the net have no rights (at least not to view their content without paying them for it).

Why should you?

YouTube should be held responsible for anything they host. They claim they have software that can detect stolen intellectual property but so far they haven't shown that it works. Or they are failing to implement it.

Google is going to think paying a billion dollars for the site was a big waste of money when they have to turn around and pay off every angry company that has its intellectual property stolen by some pimply faced kid with a basic knowledge of video hacking.

yea wtf? I would like a representitive from "viacom" to tell me where i can find 24/7 episodes of my fav. south park, or old nick classics. its sad on what america has turned into these days. the bill of rights means that we can watch what we want to watch not have it taken away. today, life has turned into complete drama and reality, nothing fun anymore.....

Viacom is wrong here. Video clips are made to PROMOTE artists and songs. I have bought many CDs after seeing a clip on the web. The audio of the clips is pretty low quality, so I doubt that many people are using them as some type of "primary" music source. If Viacom were SMART, they would have some kind of link agreement with Youtube, so that a person could "click and buy" either a HIGHER QUALITY version of the VIDEO, or a HIGH QUALITY CD type version of the song for PLAYBACK on their MP3 player. If they were REALLY SMART, they could offer BOTH as a package deal for even MORE PROFIT. Why do big companies fail to see THE REAL PROFIT picture when it is staring them in the face. Idiots.

What is with Viacom. Half of the videos Viacom wanted off the site were of shows that not even they air on television anymore nor sell on DVD. People want to see these select clips again and again. And if Viacom is not going to let us see them, why do they have to come and say no one can do so. Viacom needs to either give the people what they want, or stop complaining when others do so.
