Mashable - The Social Media Guide: 2007/04/15/ustream-narcissism/

Chris Pirillo actually was doing it before Scoble and in fact introduced it to him.
  • Nick Hodge · 2 years ago
    More correctly:

Hey, look at my cat. Ouch! It just bit me. Did you see that, guys?

Actually, UStream is just a natural extension of broadcasting, working at internet speed.

http://rextv.nuclearinbox.com/ - all in good fun... rex.tv -- yes, it's the most narcissistic thing I could do today. :)

Thanks for reminding me about the cat, I've not fed it all week due to Ustream

    ;)
  • Pete Cashmore · 2 years ago
    Jeremiah,

Heh. I mean this in good humor, of course.
  • Robert Scoble · 2 years ago
I'm still trying to figure out why this is all so much more interesting than CNN. Oh, CNN was all about Anna Nicole Smith. Social Media is all about cute cat photos and me me me me. Now I understand!

A world filled to the brim with Scarlett O'hara's Lmao. This is hilarious.

Let's have a moment of silence please for Jeremiah's dead, neglected cat.
  • Jeremiah Owyang · 2 years ago
    Pete

No worries, you've not taken too much time out of day, I have to get my hair done, my nails filed, and then meet my custom tailer so I can look good on the intrawebs

    ;)

    Jeremiah,

Thanks for your comment. I appreciated it. I am currently filming myself leaving this comment and streaming it to Ustream, while preparing to upload the clip to YouTube, posting a "writing comment on Mashable" message to Twitter and taking a photograph of myself leaving the comment to post to Flickr.

Whoever dies with the most metadata wins. :)

It used to be, on the Internet, no one knew you were a cat.

Now, thanks to Ustream, they will.

More seriously, I suspect that live video will follow the same trajectory as web sites and blogging--initially, people will wonder why anyone would want to read/listen to/watch a bunch of narcissists talking about their cats. Over time, however, as the tools develop to help people separate the wheat from the chaff (or the compelling from the non-compelling) the medium will change in grow in ways we'll never be able to predict.

Does anyone else remember how the Internet plays a key role in Orson Scott Card's novel, "Ender's War?"

In it, the hero's brother and sister end up essentially ruling the world through blogging, thanks to their online influence.

Will we see a Scoble/Pirillo ticket vs. Arrington/Winer in the 2016 election? Who knows--that's what makes this fun.

    Chris,

Tend to agree, even though you are an investor. I still thinking blogging is completely pointless, but the problem is, so is everything else.

There will definitely be a glut of pointlessly narcissistic streamers taxing the hell out of the servers a la Twitter, but as a communications geek working in a low-budget, statewide volunteer organization who just dropped a good chunk of my stipend getting to our annual convention (and missed the presence of our volunteers who couldn't afford it), I think this could be a godsend.
