I love that internet safety skills are getting attention in schools, but fear tactics aren't the answer. We need to be teaching kids how to be responsible digital citizens instead scaring them. Good concept, poor execution.

Teachers should do the teaching, with a curriculum designed by educators and 'net experts, not police and lawyers.

Also, emphasize the positive aspects of social networking, and kids will automagically be annoyed by, creeped out by, and totally ignore the negative.

It's too simple to say "never meet someone you know online."

Responsibility trumps fear every time.
