Each culture has it's taboos - in Thailand you don't disrespect the King. End of story. He's a man of the people whose sole purpose is to "do good works" for the common man. He's done that for more than 50 years. He holds no political office.

I can see exactly why the Thais would find this offensive. The King is their Sovereign and thus embodies the entire nation. Any attack on him is not just an attack on the person of the King, but an attack on the entire nation of 62 million people that he represents.

This is a dangerous precident. First, acts of censorship will only encourage users to post more videos. Second, other nations will request censorship from YouTube. And both of these things are already happening.

Youtube is a technology platform (from the US) that allows anonymous and widespread dissemination of potentially offensive material. This material is clearly offensive to the Thais - why should they have to tolerate it?

Free speech is all well and good, but it is an American right, and there are nuances to this right (flag burning, etc.).
In Thailand, they get to play by their own rules. If Americans don't think that's right, they don't have to live in Thailand (which I have by the way and it's an amazing place).

the comment was posted by a person who hates everything thai. youtube has a policy to remove certain content and this posting would qualify. for thais offending their king is like for us offending our father; who would do it? the king took care of his people all his life, like father takes care of a child and there is absolutely no reason to post anything offensive. anything against the royalty is against the law in thailand. if the law is rebuffed, people can say what they want, but this a law in thailand; if you brake a law in US by posting certain material, it will also be removed, such as promoting hatred; in this case the posting was promoting hatred. unjustified.

Do you YouTube management understand the definitions of theses three words 1. etiquette 2.politeness,3.appropriateness ? News agency has the responsibility to screen what were sent to their sites. This is not the freedom of publication issue, rather, freedom to hurt and damage our King's lifelong reputation. You are well aware there are all kinds of people who sent informations to you. Why didn't you screen it first. This show that you have not qualified. Quality press won't let this happen. You should be more sensitive and careful in presenting such offensive information. Do not excuse that when some people did that to Bush no one said anything. Our King has devoted all his life and served our country for over 60 years, including all his ancestors. Our King is well loved and highly respected. He is the father of all of us. He is not an elected politician that comes and goes. He gave his life to all of us. I would like to point out something people do not know. The clip which was removed was also trolled by 2 associates of www.vnnforum...which is a white supremacist group (which humorously is clear on their youtube profile and their own vids). They purposefully incited people without revealing their agenda. When I made a vid and called them racists people have no idea that INDEED THEY ARE. Furthermore a crime was committed to post these vids---IDENTITY THEFT AND DEFAMATION. Will the Assoc. Press do a follow up (not likely). Youtube could have avoided this by simply putting a warning in front of the vid. While youtube spouts freedom of speech to protect its ass it helps oppress China by censoring vids. FREE SPEECH INDEED!

I am a Thai, I saw my king at 3:00 am in the morning when he came to help us when water flood in Bangkok. Anyone see any Head of state do that!!! not one day but 3 days in a row. A man who keeps doing good things in his own quiet way year after year for 60 years.

I'm a US citizen who travels to Thailand twice a year. It's hard for non-Thai people to realize how loved the king is. He's not a politition that people like. He's the one fighting for Thai people. He has spent his life helping the common people. He and his family are relentless. I've never seen a politition even half as devoted. It's not a just a job. Whatever his shortcomings may be or whatever people think he could have done something different and it would have done better, Thai poeple know that he's fighting for them.
I love freedom os speech. In fact, part of the reason I love Thailand is it's not so politically correct as the west is. It's more laid back. But this isn't just freedom of speech vs. cencorship. It's hate speech and goes too far.

Thai king is not a politician. As the Social Rule, we all appreciate him as our Thai Father coz he was done many things to help people for all his life.
Even Thailand is not rich country, but he tries to tell teach Thai people to "live and stay sufficiently". Because Staying sufficiently teach us how to adapt with bad economic situation.
If we live by staying sufficiently, we will be careful of spending a lot money and learning how can we survive on ourself if we do not have much money. It's staying in the middle of everything. If this life we don't have rice to eat but with this project, we can learn how to make ourself have food by working on small land; grow rice, own chicken or pork, grow vegetables and fruit. After that this will be longer help people survive without need to have a lot of money, we won't be serious of bad debts and etc.
Please Understand Thailand in deeply details. And avoid listen from those who are Thai but try to collapse Thai king and want to own country; he's Thaksin Shinnawattra, the former Thai Prime Minister.
And Now he's trying to hired some bad people working on Youtube.com insulting our King. This is bad performance.
