Knols is not even aimed at Wikipedia. With one author for one topic, there is no way they can even reach the size of Wikipedia at anytime soon.
I can see how Mahalo.com or About.com may be in trouble but I don't understand why anyone is comparing knols with Wikipedia. They are COMPLETELY different animals.
If Google just treats knols like general web content with the main difference being an author and higher Adsense revenue then I don't see any reason why Wikipedia would get hurt. They should automatically get ranked high if the quality of the content is excellent.
Someone at Google should clarify that soon.

People immitate, it's what they do. If Google build it better and more user friendly, then it may have a shot. However, wikipedia is known, it's user built and has the loyalty of those users to keep it strong, therefore I doubt Google will kill Wikipedia.
